Stop Sending Me Facebook Invites

Yes, I like getting invited to Improv shows and classes and stuff.

I do NOT like getting "invited" via facebook.

I'm deleting my profile, if you want to contact me, you'll have to just e-mail me. It's myfirstname.mylastname@gmail.com

FYI, you can manage what kinds of notices you get via the Facebook Settings.

I think what he's talking about are the invites to all of the shows that are being put on in any given weekend. I know that SVT, Coldtowne and the New movement all put on event invites for shows they are putting on. I think the Hideout does too, not to mention individual troupes. For example GGG has one out right now for Boys of Summer.

We've debated this a lot in GGG. Some ladies feel this is a really good way to get the word out, others feel that it's dropping us into the same boat as spammers. I'm guessing their are debates like that about facebook event invites in every performance group.

I'm at a point now where I ignore almost any event invite or application invite I get. The way the current facebook layout works... it's just too overwhelming when I log on sometimes. I definitely prefer the bulletins system on myspace... too bad I don't like the overall myspace vibe.

I can relate Boyko... if you feel like deleting your profile, I say go for it.

I like getting your event invites. It reminds of what is going on.

What I hate is all the people in other cities who invite me to their events. I am not going to your show in Kansas City or Los Angeles. There are filters that people can apply to narrow down their invite list, but for some reason they don't use them.

There are few cheap cost effective options available for people to promote their shows. Facebook invites are the new flier. Deal with it.

I honestly never understood why people get their panties in such a wad over spam on facebook. It's way easier to ignore than someone shoving a flier in your face.

re: spam. Targeted invites work. I only invite friends I know personally and people who've signed up for the ColdTowne group or fan page, people who are presumably interested in what's happening at ColdTowne Theater.

Every once in a while, someone who's signed up for our mailing list is like, "STOP SENDING ME SPAM." And I'm like, dude, why did you sign up for the mailing list?

Eeggggzactly. I get invites to events on a regular basis, and it doesn't bother me in the least as long as they're invite to events I could actually attend. Truthfully, I don't go to most of them, but it's good to have a reminder for them.

I don't feel it's spam-worthy if I actually know the people, it's something I signed up for, or even if it's something a friend signed me up for.

Also, if you're deleting your Facebook page, what's the point in announcing you want people to stop inviting you to events? You're not going to receive them anymore anyway.

Right: people take one look at them and then trash them.

This is the same problem I already had with people blithely sending marketing email to every single address they have. More than one acquaintance has wound up on my spam list because they sent me marketing emails to my personal address with no way of getting off their list.

Facebook is the same deal: I have no problem with creating a page for your group and inviting people to become fans, but if you keep using your virtual friendship with me to promote every single project you do, you're likely to fall off my list. Because -- this may surprise you -- I KNOW A LOT OF PERFORMERS. Multiply your constant bulletins by about 200 to get an idea of how much crap I get invited to.

I played music in this town for twenty years, and every single musician I know falls into one of two categories: the person you can have a civil conversation with, or the person who is continually promoting/pushing/guilt-tripping his latest performance/project/product. Guess which ones are still my friends?

Oh, sorry, I forgot: we're all brands now. My bad.
