Welcome home Girls Girls Girls!

Hope you enjoyed the cool Minnesota air. How was the Twin Cities Improv Festival? Did you have a fun show and a fun time??

What did you learn? (about improv)

Well,

A) It was nowhere as cool as last year (rather warm and humid, actually).
B) To my surprise, the prospect of playing a double bill in a festival setting with Drum Machine and the inimitable GGG can give me a case of pre-show jitters. Didn't see that coming.
C) Erin Molson does the best butch of the group.
D) Kacey Samiee and Sarah Tufts make the cutest lipstick lesbian couple ever. I think they should date - or at least pretend to.
E) I have finally heard GGG do a show in which they used the word "vagina" on stage as much as they do off stage.
F) Finally, how much more difficult it is for me to do shows when I have to strain to hear what's being said (that's a venue thing, not a performer thing). Wherever possible, I must ask if the house mikes can be pumped into the monitors.

This is what I have learned/noted.

What I Learned on My First Improv Trip: By Sarah Marie Tufts

1. The emotional investment and relationship of the performing players directly affects my interest in their scene.
2. There are so many different ways to do improv, but having ENERGY seems to be the unifying factor for an enjoyable performances.
3. H & M is the most wonderful store in the Mall of America, but next time I'm going to Moose Mountain to play some putt putt.
4. I'm starting to slow down and actually SEE the opportunities I'm missing on stage, and ways I can make more interesting choices. Now I'm still seeing them after the fact, but I'm pretty sure this is one of those steps on the right path to actually using the opportunities that I was previously missing on stage. Eventually... Practice Practice Practice Sarah!
5. Andrea has a brutally gorgeous voice and I'm gonna miss singing with her.
6. Girls Girls Girls and Brockman are super fun to travel with. Super fun to work with, and super fun to be deliriously tired on a 6am flight with.
7. Indian food = AWESOME
8. Being Kacey's lesbian lover = AWESOME
9. Watching an eight year old run a John Deer Tractor Toy Store while his dad speaks loudly in a northern accent into the phone = AWESOME

I had some super fun times! Big thanks to Minneapolis too. They were incredible hosts and gave some killer performances.

Yay!

Three more things occur to me:

A) The Sarah Tufts generated phrase "the intimidating shower" has now entered my permanent lexicon.
B) Andrea Young following (leading?) a double 2/5 key change from Gmaj to Emaj was the musical highlight of my evening. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. Thank you, Andrea for continuing up the scale. Dropping back down to a C at the end of that phrase would have turned a thing of beauty into a train wreck. You are missed.
C) While walking up Hennepin Ave., Shana Merlin made a rather off-color remark/joke to me using language she does not normally use in my presence. I am ashamed to say it took a full 5 seconds for me to realize what she had just said.

Yes folks, I missed a p*ssy joke. I'm so ashamed.
