Post by Brian Boyko »

Fri 4pm: Microphone, Video camera set-up.
Fri 5pm: Recording starts, Card A (6 hrs)
Fri 11pm: Card A full. dumped to laptop. Recording starts, HD (20hrs)
Sat 7pm: Hard Drive Full. Replaced with Card A.
Sun 1am: Card A full. Replaced with Card B. Card A dumped to laptop.
Sun 7am: Card B full. Replaced with Card A. Card B dumped to laptop.
Sun 8am: Show is over.

I think I can make it. Just.

But if you can bring any 16GB SD cards, that would be great. 32GB SD cards would be even better.

Okay, with the two new SD cards, we don't have to worry about dumping them, I've got 44 hours max recording time.

So, the new schedule:

Friday, 5pm: Card A
Friday, 11pm: Card B
Saturday, 5am: Card C
Saturday, 11 am: Card D
Saturday 5pm: Hard Drive.

This works out better because by Saturday at 5, we're all going to be a little loopy and that means no one has to touch the camera until the end of the shoot.

If I miss -any- of those times, and knowing myself, I probably will sleep through one or two:

1) Press the button with the red dot on the back to stop recording.
2) Do not power off the camera.
3) Open the SD slot cover, Take out the SD card, and put it aside.
4) Put in the next SD card, and close the SD slot cover.
5) Press the red button to start recording.

Additionally, in the green room, I'm going to set up my little HD camera. If y'all are tired and want to make a little "reality TV confessional" about how tired you are, just press the record button on the front to start, and press it again when you are done. We can edit this into the final projects.

Here's one of the big things: After this is done, I'll have to talk to the theatre fundraiser owners, but I don't just plan to let this wallow on YouTube.

Ideally, I'd like to use a service called "CreateSpace" and use this to put the marathon up on Amazon.com's services. From this, you can either order a video file (like iTunes) or have DVDs printed on demand. Any profits would go to the same funds as the marathon, so even if you don't get any tickets sold at 4am in the morning, the camera might still pull in some money - and it'll keep pulling in money for a longer haul.

If that's alright with everyone, that is.

I really like the Amazon idea. That's awesome.

Crap.

The batteries in the audio mixer need to be changed every 12 hours.

New Recording Schedule

So, the new schedule:

Friday, 5pm: Card A
Friday, 11pm: Card B
Saturday, 5am: Card C & Replace Mixer Battery
Saturday, 11 am: Card D
Saturday 5pm: Hard Drive. & Replace Mixer Battery
Sunday, 5am: Replace Mixer Battery

This works out better because by Saturday at 5, we're all going to be a little loopy and that means no one has to touch the camera until the end of the shoot.

If I miss -any- of those times, and knowing myself, I probably will sleep through one or two, here is how you replace the SD card on the camera:
1) Press the button with the red dot on the back to stop recording.
2) Do not power off the camera.
3) Open the SD slot cover, Take out the SD card, and put it aside.
4) Put in the next SD card, and close the SD slot cover.
5) Press the red button to start recording.
Here's how to replace the mixer battery, which must be done every 12 hours:
1) Turn off mixer.
2) The battery compartment is on the right side of the mixer. Press down and slide the battery compartment out.
3) Replace 9volt battery.
4) Place battery compartment back inside the mixer.
5) Turn on Mixer.
