Athletics for Artists

Post by Shea »

I found this article about "art-sports" really interesting: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/fashi ... ml?_r=1&hp

I am pretty out of shape and would like to change that, but just the thought of jogging or going to the gym bores me to tears. Would anyone be interested in participating in some kind of sport, sporting event, happening etc. that combines exercise with Improv?

OK, maybe it doesn't combine improv with exercise - but it combine exercise with improvisers.

Jill Morris and I created Hat Ball. It won't get you in shape and it won't entertain you for very long but.... wait, Jill, why the hell did we create Hat Ball again?

How about an event where we meet in a public park and there is a theme. People can dress up or bring ideas or props inspired by that theme. Maybe some people form teams or troupes ahead of the event. Maybe there is a person or group of people who serve as Dungeon Masters for lack of a better term who loosely script the structure of the event.

Some possible themes:

Martial Arts training
Redneck Family Reunion Games
Flashdance
The Circus

If nothing else, something like this sounds like a great way to scare young children.

I've let my racist muscles turn to racist fat since you moved, Jill.

Anyone up for a workout?

I played Mojo Kickball for the first time on Tuesday. It was totally awesome!

It was a lot more exercise than I anticipated though, and I've been eating a lot of ibuprofen since the game.
