CAGEMATCH!!!

Post by Mike »

Hey all, come on down this Friday and support the Cage Match. Thrill to the violence as two improv groups go toe-to-toe ( or style to style) and compete for the right to come back the following week and defend their title.

There's also going to be a trophy for the winner. As long as you're champ, you get to hold on to it.

So let's break the cycle of the past two weeks where the seats were empty. Come on down and cheer/heckle your fellow improvisors.

This week's Challengers: The Cuddle Quartet.

Cage Match - Fridays 11:30PM -

Speaking of Cagematch, who is the current champion? The Blobs and Frogtown Hollow didn't compete last week due to not having a crowd and all. Should we flip a coin? Indian leg wrestle? Bundt cake bakeoff?

I guess we can have a 5 minute preliminary match...both groups compete in a line game ( 185, slogans, etc) and the winner moves on to face the challengers.

Or...

Handicap match. Blobs and Frogtown merge into one, and compete against the Cuddle Quartet

I spoke briefly with Val about this last night. Some of the Blobs didn't want or couldn't play this week and we were basically both willing to cede the victory to the other (us on the grounds that they were the defending champions and them because they were an ad hoc team that was never supposed to exist anyway). So, I proposed that we combine teams. Whoever from Blobs that could or wanted to play could join Frogtown and we'd kick the Cuddle Quartet's ass that way...I mean...we'd face the Cuddle Quartet in honorable comedic combat that way.

Nothing official was decided I don't think, but that's a possible solution. Otherwise, Frogtown would be willing to cede to Blobs and we'd request the first post-OoB tourney challenge slot.

i think its really important that when we discuss such an issue we refer to the reigning champion as blobs in the helimak.

i met a drunk physicist who promised he would show me blobs in the helimak. in the basement of rlm. i can't wait.

but seriously, i wholeheartedly support the advancement of frogtown hollow. they are just adorable!

I would prefer that whoever decides to compete tomorrow does with the intent of coming back to defend the title. A cage match is no good if you're going to compete and just decide you don't feel like playing the next week.

I would like to possibly institute "non-title" matches. These could be a one-shot night where a team challenges the champion, but if they win, the champ still gets to return. That way people can still do a cage match, but it won't upset the balance.

I think they usually do. This is a wonky situtation because Blobs was an ad hoc team built on the fly to fill in for a scheduled team that couldn't make it.

Regardless of who plays tomorrow (who is playing tomorrow officially?), I'm sure they'll either be back to play again or get beat up on my the Cuddle Quartet who, so long as they remain cuddly, will return.

That picture was so sweet I think I got diabetes looking at it.

The official match will be :

Frogtown Hollow VS The Cuddle Quartet

The Blobs will be granted a slot post OOB if they choose to come back and challenge for the Cage Match Title.

And tomorrow night, the winners will recieve "The Chump Chucker" ( so named by Jason Vines). It's like the WWE belt. Your name goes on it as long as your champions. Once you're defeated, the trophy is no longer yours.

If someone can bring a camera, I'd like to start taking pictures of the winners to file for posterity, and to post online.

Starting after OOB, there will be an unveiling of the new Cage Match board (Like the Maestro board, but geared towards the show). Winners will also have their photo on the board. And stay tuned for a themed match "Iron Improvisor" where a troupe can choose to battle one of 3 seasoned improv troupes for the title of Iron Improvisor.

When the Cuddle Quartet steps into the ring, Hell will truly come to Frogtown.

I actually do feel a bit nauseated.

Seeing that image, while listening to Megadeth on my iPod, makes me want to punch something.

Awesome.
