YES!
...to all of that and more.
I would love to have our current green room be something that is both functional (for warming up, for rehearsals, for classes, for the first part of the Jam, whatever) and personal. I want to feel at home there. I think getting all of that stuff Andrea mentioned will make it so.
Just this morning, Rachel sent me a link to a Craig's list posting for a free couch. I'm too swamped this week to make any furniture runs, but if anyone else wants to, just check that place (austin.craigslist.org) and bring something up. Between Rachel & Dave and Erika & me, we should have two bookshelves coming by January that could hold the Austin Improv Library (currently in a milk crate) and tons of props, Maestro equipment, etc.
Anyway, my point is that much of that stuff (the furniture stuff) is free (or almost free) if we just look for it. It's just a matter of hauling it from whereever back to the Hideout. I'm up for doing that anytime (evenings, weekends, etc.) after Christmas.
...and the Projector! Man, this is on top of my wishlist for the Hideout too. I'm vowing to scan eBay regularly to find some deals and then we can see what kind funds we can throw towards one. I know Chris said he'd do the same, and anyone else who wants to check eBay or knows of somewhere else -- do it! Having a projector would allow us to do so much more with our shows, as well as with the audience experience (think of, if before the show starts, we could show a promo for the Cagematch, or just random fun video stuff [a la the Alamo Theater], or [a la The Plurals and ColdTowne] could use video segments in the middle of the shows). Anyway, the idea of having a projector has gotten me daydreaming -- I can't wait.

ColdTowne Projector
ColdTowne has access to a projector that was evacuated from New Orleans. Indeed, it was to be left on the garbage heap if not for an intrepid voyage undertaken by one Dan Rubin and myself.
However, the projector needs a bulb, which costs $500 or so. Right now, that's at the bottom of our budget after going to festivals, fliers and student loans. Maybe we could work something out, like some kind of bulb cooperative.
Also, Chris Trew wants me to add that he completely forgot about the derelict projector during Saturday's meeting and he feels real dumb. His words, not mine.

Cleaning/Theater Workday
I would love to start with a thorough cleaning and maybe some minor painting, headshot decorating work day at the theater. I was in Seattle this weekend, but I know a workday has been mentioned before. What can we do this ? Is the toilet fixed ?

YES Jenny! - the greenroom improving and cleaning the hideout is in the works! I'm pretty sure a date was agreed on at the meeting Sat.
who wrote that down? : )
I'm totally excited about how great the greenroom can be... I'd like to quit my job and work on that project for the next couple weeks...
Bob and I agreed to head the greenroom committee ...these wishes are great - keep 'em coming.
I'd also like to 2nd what Bob said about how he
"..would love to have our current green room be something that is both functional (for warming up, for rehearsals, for classes, for the first part of the Jam, whatever) and personal. I want to feel at home there. I think getting all of that stuff Andrea mentioned will make it so."
and add - I want people to feel comfortable and hugged by that space - especially as they prepare to go out there and do their show.
Love in there = Love out there
..and we will make it so!
bla bla back to stuff

I am friends with the person who orders the office supplies here. We get a discount, as it's a business-to-business transaction. I'm going to price bulbs and see if it's any cheaper getting one this way.
First I need to know:
What Brand/Model projector did you rescue? I'll start hunting down bulbs once I know that.
Also, Erika found a desk at work -- this could be used for the Greenroom OR maybe a place in the hall (if the desks not overwhelmingly big) for people to put fliers, sign-up sheets, sell stuff, pamphlets for classes, etc. Just a thought...

silly me
i have a loveseat to donate to the greenroom. i don't know why i didn't put that in my initial post.
also, with all the talk about new music, i was thinking it would be cool to expand our improv book library to include cds. maybe people could burn copies of ones they really like, and we could expand our collective knowledge/appreciation of tunes. we would also have lots of house/opening/between scene music at our disposal.
i'm happy to head this up if people are interested.

Re: silly me
That's an awesome idea! I'd love to help with this however I can as well. If we're just burning CD-Rs, maybe we can get one of those big binder-esque softcases that just hold cds (and dvds) and store that in the library. And yeah, having a selection of pre-show music to play sounds like a good thing...andrea wrote:i have a loveseat to donate to the greenroom. i don't know why i didn't put that in my initial post.![]()

If you need help with the loveseat, I can certainly lend my time and our CRV to help move it post-Xmas. I plan on looking for some other chair/sofa stuff then too.

i love the idea of lots of people making cds of pre-show music!
also, i'm happy to donate my old desktop to the booth upstairs if we want a computer up there. it's about 2.5 years old and still works really well. it's got a 40G hard drive, so we should be able to load that thing up with music, sound effects, etc. i'll need to clean all my personal stuff off the disk, but i can definitely have it ready to move in by the hideout clean-up day.

First of all, I'm writing into this board WAY too often -- I know -- I'm just amped up about all the changes and possiblities.
In addition to music and sound effects, we can put video on the hard drive and run video stuff directly from the PC just like we would with mp3s. We could store promo videos (for specific shows or teams) and other stuff for pre-show info/entertainment (a la Alamo), sketches and other stuff to be used in shows, etc. on the hard drive and not have to worry about always bringing disks, or disks skipping, or anything. Coldtowne peeps obviously know a thing or two about video editting. I know a little bit and have a ton of software we can use to edit stuff. The cool thing about using the PC is that you don't have to create a DVD or have something in DVD format each time. If something plays on a PC, regardless of the format, we could play it on the screen.
Ok. I need to stop daydreaming about this projector and get some work done, I know.
There is currently an old desktop up there now (as well as a monitor!) that's not being used (it's sitting to the left of the mixing boards on the floor, in that corner). When I asked Andy about it, he said that the OS was a bit messy (likely needs to be reinstalled) but that it also had a big ol' hard drive. I'll get with Andy (or whoever else wants to) to take a look at it soon and we can figure what we'll need to do to get something functional up there, whether it's fixing the current one or using Christina's (thanks Christina!), or some combination of the two.deroosisonfire wrote:also, i'm happy to donate my old desktop to the booth upstairs if we want a computer up there. it's about 2.5 years old and still works really well. it's got a 40G hard drive, so we should be able to load that thing up with music, sound effects, etc. i'll need to clean all my personal stuff off the disk, but i can definitely have it ready to move in by the hideout clean-up day.

replying to several things:
1. The librarian in me would very much like to organize the co-op library, with bookplates and maybe even a system. I'm even tempted to organize the new music library we'll be creating, with a quick guide to the mood and style of various songs. If we start from the beginning, it wouldn't be too hard to keep it up....
2. To add to the green room wish list: Curtains over the mirrors, and maybe even a rug on the floor? It might reduce some of the noise of people stomping around.
3. People should come to the Soc.Com. meeting tonight, at Campus Kerbey at 7, and we can talk about this more!

got some hook-up furniture from my old office furniture job's warehouse. a bookshelf and two sweet (vintage) woodside, blue chairs.
i don't know if they are actually vintage. it just sounds better than saying they are out of style and dusty.
they will be dropped off at the jam tonight.

--Rats! I totally wanted to help out on the Hideout Appreciation Day, but I will be out of town Sat & Sun. I guess I could help out Friday as I don't have school. Is that OK?
--I also have an old stuffed chair & ottoman (Green!) as well as pink recliner (from my grandparent's house) that I'd like to donate to the Hideout. But I'm worried about where it will go with all the other donated furniture going in that room. Plus I don't have a truck/van to move it.
--I also wanted to donate green curtains & curtain rods to cover the mirror.
-- I also wanted to bring nails & a hammer to properly hang the white board I donated. I also have a matching (sm) cork board with push pins (on which people could post their messagesa) that I'd like to donate.
