can anyone recommend a good moving company?

All these movers seem shady. Anyone had good luck with any of them, especially on an interstate move?

IBM paid for some of my stuff to be moved down here from Canada way back when. They used Atlas.

I can't vouch for the cost or dealing with the company, cause I didn't see most of it, but all my stuff showed up, was tagged and accounted for, and the drivers that unloaded it all were decent enough.

Apparently they were a bit later than they were supposed to be, but I hadn't realized that. So somehow without noticing or complaining I got I think a $500 check from them as an apology.

My mom used a guy names Jack Daniels (no joke) and he was nice and professional and not too expensive.

Just realized that you're moving out of state, he probably doesn't do that. Sorry!

Mo, I have an Angie's List membership. The ones with on there with a large amount of high ratings are:

Oh, it's been several years but I moved across country twice. Mayflower was decent, United damaged some things.

Thank you everybody! Lisa, I'd love to use any of those movers but they're all Texas-only. Does Angie's List have any interstate movers with high marks? I've had a hard time finding a local mover that is legally allowed to cross state lines.

I am sad to have to leave here. People are so darn nice...

My dad the veteran mover says he's had his best experiences with Allied and United.

He also recommends a carrier based out of Chicago called something along the lines of Grabel Brothers (they may be a division of Allied - he can't quite remember). This was a long time ago, however and they may not exist anymore.

Is Bob's company paying for this or are you paying out of pocket? My dad warned about the lack of movee (?) rights and the tendency of prices to change between estimate and arrival - the movee has no recourse if they want their stuff and want to avoid hourly "rental" fees for keeping your stuff in the truck until you cough up the extra cash. Pure blackmail. If it's a corporate billed move this problem becomes irrelevant.

We're going to miss you, too.

The moving company should give you a book with your "rights and responsibilities" when moving. My move was done by allied moving company. The driver was very nice and kept good contact with me. Everything during the move was quick. Thumbs up.

I went on Craigslist and looked up a local company. It was just three guys who lived together, but they did an AWESOME job and were nice. I can't find their contact info, I misplaced it. dang. But you might have some luck there.

Blue Whale moved us to Chicago. They were great. Pricey, but Bob's company was picking up the tab, so whatevs. Very professional and speedy!
