Brings up an interesting question: Obviously, the majority of online forums primarily utilize aliases. Should a forum like this one, which is really an extension of a real-life geographically-based community, have a rule requiring real names? Would that encourage or inhibit people signing up?

I don't think we should have a rule. Some people obsessively like to NOT use their real name, and I'd prefer that there not be any barriers to entry.

I'm glad that I took the leap in changing my user name from my e-mail name to my real name. And I encourage those who feel comfortable doing so to follow suit (like Roy said, I often can't keep up with who's who otherwise).

I agree that it shouldn't be mandatory, though. Not everyone wants their identity to be fully transparent online, and that's fine, too.

My personal motivation in changing it was simply this: I have fallen more and more in love with improv and want to be more involved in the improv community. I figured I would be more visible, easy to contact, get to know, etc. if my name on the forum were, well, my actual name. So it was a little selfish, but hopefully in a good way.

I only just saw this thread, so I thought I'd throw my 2 cents.

I agree with all the people who want to keep cyber-anonymity. I would have done it too, had I thought of it when I first started using the internet.

But using just your first name causes really no issues. I really don't think ANYBODY will be able to find you by searching for "Brad" or "Jordan" or "Robin". You'd have to go through millions of pages first of Brad Pitt, Michael Jordan (and female model Jordan) and Robin Hood and Batman&Robin! Hell, you can search for Menelaos and you will still never find this specific forum!

I am wondering now though, what will I find if I google "Kareem"....
