interested in doing a fundraiser show for a friend

Post by improvstitute »

I am interested in organizing a fundraiser show to benefit a friend of mine. My friend has a little girl who has SMA. If you want to know what that is, go to http://www.fsma.org/booklet.shtml#whatis.

The medical costs are incredibly high and they are constantly traveling to someother part of the country for a research study or medical study in hopes of finding a cure.

Anyhow, I'd like to put together a show or series of shows and I am looking to see if any troupes (improv or sketch) or other performers would be interested in volunteering their time and talents. Also, I am looking for space. Perhaps the Hideout or The Space or some other venue.

Basically, this idea is just in it's beginning phase. I have no dates in mind or anything like that. This is just a feeler to see in this community would support it. I also have an idea to do a regular charity improv thing called Laughs For Lives. If you want more info about any of this, email me at foolishmortal@cox-internet.com

Thanks!
-Ted

I can't see LBs saying "no" to another show. We haven't turned one down yet. We have f-ing 8 people in one team. And I would also say they're all really nice. But who knows, they could prove to be cold and heartless and say NO THANK YOU which would prove me wrong... on both counts.

lets try this again

Thanks to P'Graph and LB for responding...are there any other people interested in doing this fundraiser? In case you didn't read the link, SMA is short for Spinal Muscular Atrophe. It severely weakens or incapacitates the organs and extremeties closest to the spine. Most kids that have this don't live past 2. Grace turned 2 in March.

There is some promise for a cure, but nothing yet. This family travels all over the country participating in medical studies in hopes of making their daughter's quality of life better. The mom can't work because Grace needs 24 hour attention. The father was recently laid off by a local phone company (he is an IT guy if any of you know of a job in that field). My point is that THEY NEED MONEY! This is one way that I thought we could help.

IF you are not into helping out, that is cool. But you could still look at it as a way to promote your troupe. I am hoping to do this big (radio, print ads, etc.) but I need some support.

So...who else is with me? Foolish Mortals (I am assuming), P'Graph. Leading Brands, ...you could be listed here. It can be singles too. If your troupe can't/won't commit, but you want to help out, you can. Just let me know! We could even do an All Star Micetro or Dream at teh end so you can play with some people you don't often get to play with. Also...Andy C...how about the Hideout?

Thanks again!

Ted

PS - I hope the lack of response is due to the lack of details. If so, I understand. I just want to get an idea of who would be willing to help out.
