You need to do a better job of spying if you want to be a successful party crasher.

I'm so sad I missed out on all the fun. We'll have to have another one when I'm in town.

Hey Sexy Improv Ladies-- I know I missed out on all the girl bonding at the slumber party, but maybe I can make up for it. I'm having this class.

Girlprov Specialty Class
(Saturday June 17, 1-4)

Most improv comedy troupes are mostly men. Often women in these troupes grow weak in certain areas (driving a scene, playing the lead character, being the funny one) and stronger in others (giving support, playing stock female characters, being the "straight man/woman.") It is important for women to train in an all-female environment to balance out their skills, get a chance to play the rare all-girl-scene, and bond with other female improvisers. This workshop with all women will make for stronger female improvisers in co-ed and single-sex troupes. No prerequisites. No boys allowed. $25

Let's make it happen.

I am going to lead a workshop for men called "Dick-prov" It will be geared towards teaching the men how to show the chicks in improv their place in a scene. Ladies are welcome to attend but must bring knee pads.

This may sound like I'm taking the piss here....

But if the goal is to improve the role of women in improv scenes *with men*, why wouldn't you want the men there to see what's been going wrong and learning from it?

Good question. Believe it or not, women tend to act differently when men are watching. And vice versa. That's one of the reasons I think it's important to have an all women workshop. Women will often try different things when not the object of the male gaze.

Also, I don't feel like a lot of men [Dav Wallace excluded ;)] are doing something wrong. It's more like the ladies have to step up to the plate and do thier thing.

So sign up sistas.
