Joy Gohring IMRPOV Workshop in Austin!!

Post by thejoyshow »

I'm comin' to Austin and rounding up people who are interested in taking an improv character and/or scene class. Going to be at the Hideout on Nov. 8th. I'm originally from Austin, but now perform Improv in Vegas for the Wayne Brady Show...would love some thoughts on what people are looking for and what I could bring to Austin! :D

what's your improv philosophy? What's your specialty? What can we learn from you that we can't get from someone in Austin? That's what I'd like to take a class in.

Philosophy

Post by thejoyshow »

My philosophy is to start with what makes you unique and go from there -- not to just throw on a southern accent or do a version of what you think a lawyer might act like, but to find the part of you that could actually be that person -- getting to the truth of what it means for YOU personally. That's what makes each comic or improvisor interesting to watch...my specialty is characters and relationships and building scenes from there...

Welcome, Joy!

I apologize in advance for mistaking you for Tom's wife instead of his sister in my review of Kick Butt a few months ago (d'oh!) Tom hasn't given me a hard time about it during Tai Chi, but I keep waiting for it. :)

Joy, I'm definitely interested in taking your class, and I think your demo video is hilarious. My only beef is that Martin Sheen never said "The horror..." in Apocalypse Now.
In other news, I'm a dork. And I'm glad you're coming to Austin.

I'm interested, too. Don't fill up before I get some money in my checking account.

Sadly we have not reached the minimum student requirement for this class, we're going to have to call it off.

We'll try to get Joy back in the future during a less hectic time of year.

I repeat, no class this Saturday.

Yes, please get her back. I would have done this if I didn't have an art class at that time.
