What are you listening to?
Everything else, basically.

I just got a Lyrics Born retrospective that has been churning all over my shit lately.
Also, Do Make Say Think's Goodbye Enemy Airship again has me in its grips.
I keep listening to "They'll Need a Crane" and "Stormy Pinkness" by They Might Be Giants.
Finally, I listen to Shout Out Louds a whole bunch a lot, and I don't know whether or not to be ashamed of this.

A tangent, in honor of the Large Hadron Collider and the black hole we might get sucked into on Wednesday afternoon (which I'm actually a little afraid of, no matter what this Boing Boing article (http://www.boingboing.net/2008/09/04/lh ... stroy.html) says: If you knew the world was going to end, and you had enough advance notice to listen to a song while it was happening, what song would you choose?
I'd choose "In the Aeroplane of the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel because it's goddammed beautiful and celebratory while also existience-questioning. How strange it is to be anything at all, indeed.

Runner up goes to Stevie Wonder's "Heaven Help Us All," a gospel-y number from the Signed, Sealed and Delivered album which I think would well serve an ironic, Dr. Strangelove-esque montage of falling bombs (probably because of the part where Stevie sings "Heaven help the roses if the bombs begin to fall")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmGZC0oMFo8
I realize this is morbid, but come on: Scientists are poised to begin slinging protons around a 17-mile track in order to find out what it was like moments after The Big Bang. Which reminds me: Most anything off of The Flamings Lips The Soft Bulletin would also work under these circumstances.

It's sad that the LHC crew keeps getting hammered with death threats and desperate pleas to stop this experiment. Yes, it could be a bit scary to think a giant underground machine will crank out minuscule black holes, but the black holes can't possibly have enough mass to sustain themselves. Plus, how can you possibly dislike CERN when they flew Charna in to teach them some improv basics?
What really does scare me is all this nonsense the producers of Lost keep throwing in about episodes taking inspiration from the LHC. Just what everyone needs: yet more cryptic/misleading clues to pile atop a mountain of mystery.
I do second the nod for Neutral Milk Hotel, however.

One of the CERN physicists (Mr. Stanek) was the monologist last week for the Armando Diaz show. He talked some about the experiment and took questions at the end.bradisntclever wrote:Plus, how can you possibly dislike CERN when they flew Charna in to teach them some improv basics?
