Austin Light Rail

Post by spantell »

There is a proposal on the table for light rail in downtown Austin. They are proposing three legs:

1. S. Congress down Riverside to the Airport

2. Up Congress and through U.T., probably along San Jacinto

3. Manor up to Mueller

There are public meetings next week on each of the three parts, and a general town hall meeting on the 22nd, info. below.

I think it could be a really positive boost to Austin quality of life. Because of a Texas law, they can't implement any light rail without an election. Unfortunately, they didn't get their acts together for this Nov., when turnout will be very high, but are now looking at an election in May '09.

Phoenix gets our light rail system in a few months.

The PHX light rail and the ATX light rail should totally dump people off at the Phoenix/Austin bullet train.
