God damn. Seeing that website makes me feel so many things.
I do improv because of the Well Hung Jury.

i do improv because of the Well Hung Jury too. hell, i think i'm an actor because of the Well Hung Jury. it taught me so much about the possibilities not only of improv but of theatre and performance in general. five and a half of the best years of my life.

seeing that site makes me nostalgic. sniff. all right, this meeting's convened. i'm gonedy like the windy. 3-2-1, how's your family? peace...

I was thinking about trying to break the record a while back. spf7 has the current record I believe at 70+ hours. I emailed the guys in the troupe a while back to find out the logistics of what they did, but I'm pretty sure they're the current unofficial record holders.

I know that a bunch of CSz troupes around the country pulled off marathon shows as benefits to collect money for tournament travel, stage equipment and what not. They were always well received. I think Austin's CSz did one of these but that was way before my time.

Granted the CSz format works really well for a marathon as you could easily change out cast members..but c'mon, 185 at 4:30 am for a house of none?...I would pay to see that (but then would really have happened?).

I recommend those whom are interested get together and watch "The Cure for Insomnia" (1987). Billed as the longest movie ever made at a total running time of 85 hours (5220 min)..that is if you want to pull off a narrative. Or we could watch "The North and the South" or was it "The Blue and the Gray" you know the mini-series that starred a young Patrick Swayze. I think a nice mini-series-esque long form would be freakin sweet!

oh god...i just had a vision of trying to do the Great Mundane all in one night.

In Edmonton they have a 53-hour soap-a-thon where they tell a single story in 53 hours.

In Calgary they do a 53-hour marathon where each hour is a different format (Micetro, Shakespeare, Gorilla, Theatresports, crazy format they made up for the four am slot). That might be a more practical model for our first marathon outing.

Both cities had a core group of improvisers that performed and didn't sleep the whole time.

I had a similar idea when I first heard about this. My version of a multi-hour improv show would run like Same Year's Eve on a much wider scale. Group A would do short form, Group B would do longform scenic improv, and Group C would do longform narrative, and then each group switched their format every other hour, so group A would do longform scenic improv, Group B would do longform narrative, and Group C would do shortform, and so on and so forth. Perhaps after so long (after each group does each format), the groups would mix so they don't have to keep playing with the same people.
