Tuesday Night Jam - 07/15/08
What: Tuesday Night Jam!
When: Tuesday Night - 7 to 10 pm
Where: The Hideout Theater upstiars greenroom (617 Congress Ave)
How Much: FREE!
Come one, come all, to the Tuesday Night Jam!
Tomorrow night we will work on all sorts of good stuff, maybe some realism in scenes, hammering down a few Maestro games, and and/or explore the Laws of (E)motion and how they can affect your scenes.
Regardless, we will have fun!

Jam Pledge activities for the next week (I won't be able to make the jam next week to check up on you, but I'll be back on the 29th):
Wednesday:
(15 mins)
Play "Speak in One Voice" with a random and unfamiliar source. A television show (or episode of a show) you have not seen before is a great source, as is a radio station you don't normally listen to. You can't overthink because the source won't stop or slow down for you, you just have to go, go, go. Play for 15 minutes straight.
Thursday:
(30 mins)
Do something artistic for 30 mins...something you don't normally do and possibly have no training in. Paint, write, compose, play an instrument. Create in a new venue.
Friday:
(15 mins)
Write your own eulogy. Emphasize your performance successes and accomplishments. What will you achieve?
Saturday:
(20 mins)
Play a modified game of Malapropism around your home.
Level 1: Point at things and say what they are (point at a chair and say "chair," point at a door and say "door," point at a light and say "light"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 2: Point at things and say what the previous thing you pointed at was (point at a chair and say nothing, point at a door and say "chair," point at a light and say "door"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 3: Point at things and say what the item was two steps previous (point at a chair and say nothing, point at a door and say nothing, point at a light and say "chair," point at a painting and say "door"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 4: Point at things and say what the next thing you are going to point at is (point at a chair and say "door," point at a door and say "light," point at a light and say "painting"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 5: at things and say some aspect of them, but not what they are (point at a green chair and say "green" point at a door and say "wooden," point at a light and say "round"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 6: Point at things and say what they are not. Be as completely unrelated as possible (point at a chair and say "elephant" point at a door and say "Hawaii," point at a light and say "Mayflower Compact"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 7: Point at things and say what you do with them or what they do (point at a chair and say "sit", point at a door and say "open," point at a light and say "glow"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 8: Point at things and give a related, possibly abstract, concept they inspire (point at a chair and say "relaxation," point at a door and say "transition," point at a light and say "illumination," point at a painting and say "expression"). Do this for about 2 mins.
Level 9: Point at things and name them for a person or place (proper noun) that you associate with them or what they represent (point at a chair and say "Queen Elizabeth" (throne), point at a door and say "Janus" (god of gateways), point at a light and say "Paris" (city of lights)).
Sunday:
(15 mins)
Invent a new improv game with a name and three rules. Base it on things in your environment, but don't force it. Wait for something to inspire it. Just invent it. Maybe you are driving down the street and you see a newly constructed building. You like it and decide to name the game Tower. A bee lands on your sindshield and so you decide one rule is that one player must start every sentence with the same letter of the alphabet, like B. Your radio is on so you decide that another character must sing their lines. Nearby, you see a man on a bench reading the paper. So the third rule is that the scene must be based on a hot-button political issue.
It doesn't matter how realisitc or silly it is or if it makes any sense at all.
Monday:
(20 mins)
Do 5 things different than you normally would today. Brush your teeth for a minute using the opposite hand. Take a different route to work or school than you normally would and park in a different space. Take a shower with your eyes closed the entire time - feel out which bottle is the shampoo and how much you need without looking.
Tuesday:
Go to the jam!
Wash, rinse, repeat for one additional week!

Madame Curie walks into a bar and orders 185 shots of Vodka. The bartender say, "whoa, there, little lady. You need to slow-down-ska!"Wesley wrote:I'll buy a beer for the first person to make a pun with her maiden name (Skłodowska).
p.s. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the "unfunny" blue playground scene with Wesley at the jam.
