The Green Mesquite is quite bland. It's okay if you need bbq in a pinch but outside of that I wouldn't recommend it. Seems Wes is pretty set on the County Line BBQ. I'm surprised no one mentioned Sam's on East 12th St. Man, it must have taken at least 24 hours for the taste of BBQ to leave my mouth it was soo good.

So what are everyone's thoughts on...

Artz Rib House
Broken Spoke
Rudy McKeskas (?) in Taylor, TX
Sam's

are there any other local bbq places in town?

(BTW - I'm getting BBQ around 8pm tonight for dinner if anyone wants to meat up. All this talk is driving me meat crazy.)

AMEN TO SAM'S on E. 12th

Post by Dave »

I was trying to tell someone about that place this weekend. someone help me out here, who i was talking to about this?

Jerm took me one night for take out to bring back for Rachel, Erin and Jen, who were waiting at a nearby bar.

The owner told us how he was hired in the late 70's to cater an entire World tour for James Brown and Parliment/Funkadelic. You don't get better street cred than that.

On top of that, the meat was jaw-dropping. Savory, juicy, delicious.

...and the atmosphere--stark, no waitstaff...a B&W TV in the corner. DYI Napkins and silverware.
Drug Dealers and Streetwalkin' Ho's hanging out outside in the summer nights...

...My kinda place :D

Jay, how far are you willing to venture for great BBQ? There are several places in Smithville, Lockhart and Luling that I can think of that will blow your fucking mind. I've been itching to go on a miniature BBQ road trip for a while. Maybe I can show you a few of my favorite places before you leave town.

If the trip includes Cooper's in LLano, I'm so down. My officemate flew me there once in his private plane just to get some BBQ.
