Creating Meaningful Moments on Stage

Instructors: Kareem Badr, Kaci Beeler, Roy Janik
Tuesdays 7-9pm, July 8th-29th. $100

Great theatre is made up of great moments. We don't have the luxury of re-writes and planning in improv, but that doesn't mean we can't treat each moment on stage with importance and weight. In this 4 week class, you will learn to:
  • - slow down and read your scene partners
    - be comfortable with being silent on stage
    - recognize the power of seeing characters change on stage
    - fulfill the promises your scene choices make to the audience
    - better commit to, and "stick", your choices on stage
This class is intended for improvisers who have a basic understanding of improv, but want to add depth to their scenework, or just want to be more comfortable doing scenes. Each week, you will learn new techniques for making your scene choices stronger, and put the techniques to use in a series of directed, and un-directed, scenes.

Tuesdays, 7-9pm
July 8th-29th
Hideout Theatre (607 Congress)
$100

Good question!

A couple of reasons. First off, it was one of the few times we had available that The Hideout was also available (the class will be downstairs). Second, the time (7 to 9pm) is deliberately designed so that when people are done with the class they can head up to the show portion of the jam and watch/participate, depending on what's going on. And then everyone (jammers and students) can go over to Pint Night at the Dog n' Duck or some such.

This is also happening at the same time as the Start Trekkin' class/rehearsal thingy isn't it?

I'm not quite sure. I know there was some things with potential conflicts, but Andy gave us the go-ahead.

Right now, the Start Trekkin' workshop is slotted for 7-9 on Tuesdays in July. If the jam is in the classroom, trekkin is in the upstairs and this is in the downstairs, then we're still good. And, at long last, we'll have the entire Hideout active at once. Sweet!

Assuming the first one makes and is well received, you can bet we'll be doing it again.

I've been trying to think of a sly way to bump this thread for days now, but I can't. If you have any interest in the class, feel free to talk to me about it, and what it entails. I'm super excited about it... And strangely, I'm excited about what I'll learn in the process of teaching it.

If it weren't for the fact that I've already committed to something else in this exact time slot, I'd be all over this class big time. I will make a point to take it next time you offer it.

Is this course recommended only for more seasoned improvisers? Would a novice get more out of it in the future or does that matter? It sounds intriguing and the area of improv that I'm most interested in.

I think the class will work just fine for newer improvisers. So long as you understand the basics of "yes, and"ing, and you have an energetic disposition and a can-do attitude, you'll be fine. We'll be there to help with scene setups and such if we feel it's necessary. in short, we've got your backs.

Feel free to contact me with more questions.
