Get your motor runnin'...

Post by HerrHerr »

Hello, improv friends.

So, the Republic of Texas Biker Rally is next weekend. As many of you recall, Congress Ave. is filled with bikers on that Friday night. Access to The Hideout is tough. In the past we've had very low house numbers. It's a zoo, actually. A zoo of exhaust and revving and leather, some chains, lots of tats, etc...The street is closed to traffic, parking is a nightmare, though not impossible. Be prepared to walk a few blocks. Or bring your Segue.

My advice would be to get the word out to your friends that your show is on (if you happen to be playing that night) and to not worry about the bikers. Actual access to the Hideout's front door is tricky. You might actually have to do a wheelie to get inside.

Here's more info:

Molly Hatchet is playing. Or, as I like to call them, Holly Matchet.

Yikes. I totally forgot about this.

Hideout was kind of barren last couple years during this, if I remember correctly.

it's also the weekend of the Pride Parade...and the state high school girls volleyball tournament at the convention center with lots of proverbial suburban 'soccer moms' and their SUVs and ice chests. It's a fun mix.

I hate the biker convention, or as I like to call it "White Accountants Gone Wild Weekend"

last year, before my show, I saw a man throw himself from the driscol balcony onto sixth street. Awesome city.

Reminder: July 13th (Friday)

Don't forget how tricky it's gonna be to get downtown and park this Friday due to the enormous amount of bikers in town. I am very serious about this. It's not impossible to find a parking place, but...

Also, please tell friends and family and fans of your troupe to prepare accordingly. That they may have to walk an extra block to get to the front door of The Hideout. They have tons of bikes out there and food tents and whatnot blocking Congress.

Thanks!

You will find it much easier to get around downtown on your bicycle. Bus in close. Bike in closer.
