Start Trekkin' Workshop in June/July

Post by acrouch »

For your consideration:

MAINSTAGE IMPROV WORKSHOP (START TREKKIN')

Eight-Week Workshop (on Wednesdays in June and Tuesdays in July)
Instructor: Troy Miller and Andy Crouch

Boldly go to the Hideout on Tuesday nights for eight weeks of narrative longform instruction in the genre of Start Trekkin'. The Hideout is bringing their most successful show ever back to the mainstage this fall and we want you involved in the process. Learn to tell a sixty-minute story with strong characters, transparent social allegories and lots of wigs and costumes. You'll work on creating self-contained scenes, building suspense and coming to a satisfying dramatic climax. Start Trekkin' is pure unadulterated fun like a longform should be.

Workshop participants will perform in a short "warm-up" act before every show in the September/October run of Start Trekkin'. They will also perform at least two student performances of Start Trekkin' on a Thursday or Sunday in September/October. (We're still working out the details on these "Mainstage Workshops" so if there are other things we can do to make it worth your while, let us know and we'll try to make it happen.)

Caveat: This workshop is in no way part of the casting process for the 2008 run of Start Trekkin'; it is an opportunity for improvisers to learn narrative longform techniques in a genre that we have found to be exciting and exceptionally popular. (Limit 10 students)

Wednesdays, 7-9 from June 11 to June 25 and Tuesdays, 7-9pm July 1 - July 29
$120 ($7.50 per hour)

Dang. Well, if one of the Franks drops out, put me down for one of his slots.

(Edit: I swore that Andy said "the first ten slots go to Frank". Reading hard.)

I'm now torn between the Maestro workshop and this. Narrative longform or shortform? Narrative longform or shortform?!

Actually, a better question would be how am I going to find money in time to pay for this?!

Is it possible to pay offline? I.E., I pay you in-person?

Hmm. A couple people have had similar complaints. What if we had the first month of the Start Trekkin' workshop on Wed, 7-9 and the second month on Tuesdays 7-9? That way it doesn't conflict with either the Maestro workshop or the rehearsals for Start Trekkin'.

Marc, Matt? Would that screw you guys up?

That's far enough in the future that it should be cool for me.

Okay, it's done. There is now NO CONFLICT between the Maestro Workshop and the Start Trekkin' Workshop.

Sorry for the lack of clarity, gang. Here's the plan for the Start Trekkin' workshop. We'll start next week to adjust for any confusion.

The workshop is on Wednesdays in June and Tuesdays in July. Eight weeks.

Start Trekkin' is one of our favorite formats, and is a great chance to do some hardcore genre work. We still have spots available, so PM or email or just register here:
