Greetings,

I'm rapidly approaching the end of my meager savings, which means one of two things has to happen: I need to find work or a mysterious benefactor.

Since my work experience includes running the country's largest sailing program and infotainment magazines and we're three hundred miles from any significant body of water, it looks like I'm going to try and start a little freelance writing career to suppliment my income of zero.

Unfortunately, I haven't really submerged myself in the Austin scene outside of the Hideout, which makes it really hard to approach an editor with a story pitch. Now that I'm settled, I need some help making myself more culturaly literate in the local sense of the word.

What bands do you like around here that deserve but don't get a lot of coverage in the local press? As a point of reference, what kind of music do you love and what kind of music pisses you off? What art/performance scenes exist that I may not be aware of that I should go check out? Any other leads for interviews or stories you can think of? Will you go to the Sadie Hawkins with me?

Thanks again. I know this is retarded, but as I've been a shut in these many months, I need a leg up.
