Eating in Austin

I've been in Austin for almost two years and in that time I've eaten a lot of places. I cannot cook at all and I am usually cooking for one. I'm curious what everyone's favorite places are. I personally love Bouldin Creek Cafe on South First and not just because it resembles my last name.What about you all-ins? Do Share!

I'm a sucker for Flip Happy Crepes (www.fliphappy.com). They have weird hours and only take cash, but are very tasty.

I love a lot of places here in town but I'll just name one here...

Hoover's on Manor Rd.

Great comfort food and extremely filling.

Now that I have moved to Chicago, I miss every place that serves good salsa, queso, and margaritas.

Good Chains:
McCormick & Schmicks (has an unbeatable happy hour)
Chili's
Melting Pot (best gourmet meal I could ever have)
Chik-fil-a (best low calorie fast food menu)
Jimmy Johns (delicious, low calorie, super fast)

Chez Nous on Neches right next to 6th street is my favorite place in town, the Prix Fixe makes it pretty affordable ($25 for a full meal).

Umi has the best Sushi in town (In my estimation anyway) It's in a strip mall of all places on S. I35 Across the highway from Tinseltown South

Joe DiMaggio's at The Domain is (obviously) a chain restaurant but man, they have some awesome chefs there and the NY Strip is amazing.

Fogo De Chao is an experience, try it once but make sure you have deep pockets (My wife and I spent $140 when all was said and done) but come on...All you can eat slow fired steak? how can you go wrong?

I haven't found a Mexican place or a German place I really like in town so when I'm in the mood for that I'll usually drive to San Antonio or New Braunfels respectively.

Oh and personally, my favorite BBQ place is Mann's on Research...Also on Research is Draukla which is fun to go just because it's so odd (it's not Gothic themed?!)...and when else do you get to eat Romanian food?

I had the same problem living in LA, but I'm really picky about Mexican food... If it's not at least half on par with my moms cooking then forget it.

I completely agree with the above statement!

The best burger I've had here is at Jo's on 2nd Street. Jo's has the best coffee, too.
Baby Greens has awesome salads.
Eddie V's for fish.
Jefe's on North Lamar for breakfast tacos.
Botticelli's next to the Continental has an awesome Italian Beef. I found it equivalent to the ones when I lived in Little Italy in Chicago.
I love everything I've ever had on the menu at Joe's Bar & Grill.
Whole Foods for Tomato Chipotle soup.
Jimmy John's for tuna sammiches.

If it's a cold day, I love to get a bowl of chili and some fresh bread at Whole Foods. Then take whatever bread is left and cover it with Nutella for dessert....tasty.

Yeah! They have an awesome roasted chicken plate. It's tasty and not tex mex and more healthy than your average Austin mexican meal.
They also serve good guacamole too.

I'll check it out, I had seen it in passing but I assumed it was one of those places more hyped for 2$ drinks than food, glad to hear I was wrong because most of the places in Austin are pretty lacking (In my opinion anyway)

Anyone know a place in town that has good (or at least passable) Mole? I'm afraid to try it at most places because when its good its good but when it's bad it's really really horrible and every place makes it different.

I think the tortilla soup at Vivo's is delovely!

I frequently eat at the diner in the back of The Hanyang grocery on Lamar and Justin. They have really healthy fast food. Cash only. Along those lines I'm also a huge fan of Koriente.
