I've only seen the first few episodes of the first season, and they didn't really grab me, so I left Lost behind way back when. Everyone seems really excited about it, so I did a little digging to see exactly what I've been missing, and came up with this:

Everything you need to know about the TV series "Lost" up to the end of Season 3 in 8 minutes 15 seconds.

So, is that pretty much it? Do I need to go back and watch sixty hours of that stuff to get caught up? Because I just did that with Buffy, and I gotta say, I feel a little dead inside now.

Marc, I only watched the first minute or so but it seems pretty comprehensive with the facts and whatnot (and damn impressive, whoever put that together!). The thing about this show though is the way that it continues to unfold and reveal itself. They do it in really creative and often unexpected ways, and for that reason I'd say watch it all the way through. Plus, the tension and uncertainty they are able to build throughout is amazing and (obvs.) missing from the summary.

I stopped all the obsessing a little after the season 3 finale and am just now getting back into re-reading about where we left off, thinking about theories and stuff. I just saw the Season 4 poster (below). What do you think the reflection we see in the water means?

If I had to take a guess, I'd say it hints at what we'll be seeing in the new season. In previous seasons, flashbacks were used to show us how the island life reflects their pre-island life. Season 4 will likely use flash-forwards to show how their post-island life reflects the same dynamics and problems that they had on the island.

Just a guess, though.

Marc, I've been watching that video almost every day for nearly two weeks. They do a great job of encapsulating the main story line. What the video doesn't do is give the viewer a chance to have favorite characters, and it doesn't touch at all on the myriad coincidental connections of the lives of the castaways before the plane crashed.

Anyway, my favorite character is John Locke. I love the way he turns his situation into a kind of shamanic vision quest, and he believes that the Island is alive. Pragmatic Dr. Jack Shephard can't hang with that perspective, so the butting of heads often ensues. Curiously, they're two of at least 5 characters with daddy issues. Those are detailed in various flashbacks.

But yeah, that 8:15 synopsis... it's a fair cop.

And I second what Bob said about the way the story is told, suspenseful and surprising. And I want that poster on my wall. And I agree with Kareem about the reflection. And there's no reason anyone should have to watch every goddamn episode of Buffy. Good show, but... its weakest links are pretty damned weak.

The reflection is of a 6 and stands for Oceanic 6. That's the name the media gives the survivors when they return from the island. Yes, only six.

That's a different part of the reflection you're talking about, Justin. There's also the city skyline.
