Improv and Popular reference (ramblings)

In a scene last night I was playing a character auditioning to play Raggedy Andy and Andrea played a character auditioning to play Raggedy Ann. Andrea's character was a trained actress and was pimped to do a monolog. She did a great made- up Shakespearen monolog. Then I was pimped to do a monolog...and my character was obviously not a a classically trained actor. I did my monolog as KITT from an episode of Night Rider (and Andy P. stepped out to play Hasselhoff).

This was not a pop culture reference moment. It was a pop culture scene. Those who knew the TV show really enjoyed the monolog...it fit the situation.

But, yes, I am guilty of throwing out references for laughs or out of a random moment of lunacy. I say, those in the crowd who know a reference often laugh, those who don't might chuckle.

I remember watching Monty Python as a kid and not knowing references that got a laugh from the audience and laughing along because they had obviously hit on something that struck a chord.
