Big News from Gnap! Theater Projects and Merlin Works

Post by shando »

Hey Awesome Austin Improvisers,

We have some exciting news.

Gnap! Theater Projects and Merlin Works are excited to announce a new partnership and venture at Salvage Vanguard Theater.

Gnap! Theater Projects is going to be producing an ongoing run of 10:30pm shows Second and Fourth Saturdays at SVT, while Merlin Works is opening The Merlin Works Institute for Improvisation, a new training center focusing on shortform game play and narrative longform.

We're going to have our Grand Opening on Friday February 22nd with a show at 8pm featuring Get Up and Parallelogramophonograph and a party to follow with drinks, music, and merriment and we want you to come celebrate with us.

About the Gnap! Improv Run:

Shows will feature Austin’s premier longform narrative troupes. At the start, Get Up will perform in each show paired with another troupe. As longform troupes are formed from the school, they will begin as opening acts for established troupes. Shannon McCormick will be serving as producer of the shows.

About the Merlin Works Institute for Improvisation:

The school will have two series of classes. The first three levels of workshops focus on short form game play. After completing this series, graduates will be eligible to perform in a new ongoing shortform show (more info on that later . . .) The second three class series will focus on narrative longform. Graduates of this program will have a run of shows and be guided into the process of forming a troupe with a coach. There will also be electives offered in topics such as singing, acting, or movement to supplement the main curriculum. Shana Merlin will be the Dean of the school.

Improv is a team sport, and we couldn’t ask for a better community than Austin. We have learned so much, gotten so many opportunities, and had so much fun with all of you. The success of this kind of venture depends on having talented and fun people be a part of it from the start. We hope for your support and involvement in this new addition to the community. Keep an eye out for more announcements coming soon about shows, classes, and more.

Sincerely,

Shana Merlin and Shannon McCormick
