Part of the joke of making a five minute version of a movie is that these movies are relatable and when you condense everything and see that one quick reference to that scene that you know takes a lot longer, its funny. How do you get that relatability with a movie that has not come out yet?

I agree. I was having a conversation with my roommate Jerry about just that last night. If you're talking about Cloverfield, though, I would see it first, and then make the movie. If I did Cloverfield.

I didn't even say I was doing Cloverfield, it's just speculation and brainstorming.

Hmm. The site says, "It's free to compete and you can choose any movie under the sun to remake!", which runs counter to what you said, no? I'm sure the filmmakingfrenzy people could clear up any confusion.

ps If you did a five-minute Be Kind Rewind remake, not being 100% certain how the plot goes (or getting the plot wrong) could be part of the joke....

So what seems to be the best approach, to try and capture one entire scene from a movie or snippets from several moments in a movie? Cuz it seems like doing a montage of scenes would make it feel more like a trailer (especially like the ones from the 60s/70s).

Also, they're looking for a popular film. Should the film be more current? Cuz I think a movie like Chinatown would be great for those who have seen it, but you're out of look probably if a lot of people haven't seen it b/c it's not currently in the minds of the public (through commercials/trailers/internet).

Me too, I think this is a very plausible idea, especially when trying to figure out how to represent the bears. This needs to be done.
