Alamo Filmmaking Contests

Post by hujhax »

Just got an email about the latest Alamo filmmaking contest -- figured a general-purpose thread might be handy.

Here's their description of the latest one:
Beginning on January 1, teams can sign up at www.filmmakingfrenzy.com to compete in REWIND KINDLY, a filmmaking competition inspired by BE KIND REWIND sponsored by AMD and Dell. Teams will have until January 18 at midnight to complete and upload an up-to-five-minute, homemade, low-budget remake of a popular Hollywood film. It's free to compete and you can choose any movie under the sun to remake!
Complete info here.

HA! That's fucking funny. Any qualms with me writing a treatment on that, Andy?

I sincerely hope somebody tries to pull off a five-minute version of Star Wars episodes I-VI plus both volumes of Clone Wars.

I wanna do a version of Fight Club if I can get actors. I already have the equipment to do so and a general idea of what to do.

I also have a few other ideas bouncing around. I'd also love to try making...
-Groundhog's Day
-Annie Hall (and I know just the person to cast)
-A Clockwork Orange (perhaps we could make Alex watch those currently circulating shock videos in this version, but the Beethoven music is used during a fictional video)
-Idiocracy
-Office Space
-The Shining
-Dr. Strangelove (or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb)
-High Fidelity
-Plan 9 From Outer Space (they did "Son or Daughter of Glen or Glenda?" before)
-Citizen Kane (a travesty to try to remake, I know, but it's worth a try)
-The Ring
-Saw

A real challenge, however, would be to remake Army of Darkness or 2001: A Space Odyssey (even though they did it in the movie trailer).

This contest is gonna be so awesome.

Also, Lubu, I'm totally down for Eraserhead in 5 minutes. Just let me find my wig and dinosaur-lookin'-baby-wrapped-in-gauz.

I'd love to see The Return of the King in 5 mins.

Or we can look to our classics: Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of OZ, or Casablanca in 5 mins. Kareem would make a great Sam Spade.
