Tuesday Jam

Post by Roy Janik »

Hey, I've got a free Tuesday this week so I thought I'd come lend a hand at the jam.

You should come, and if there's anything you want to work on or share, bring it!

As much as I like leading the jam, it'd be nice to get re-schooled on how to run it/not have to lead for once. I've learned I'm terrible at picking the right warmups or pacing the mock show. I always have ideas, but I never get to them.

So, thanks a loads, Roy.

My goal with the jam tonight is to move it back to a more organic type environment... that is, focusing on the skills and desires of the people actually there, and making sure that everyone's taken care of.

I wamt to come to the jam

Also if there is time, I'd like to use the jam to intensely confront my irrational fear of butterflies. I'll bring my copy of the Dark Crystal if someone else can round up about 600 butterflies in an hour and a half.

Mine too. Though I think I screwed up and misnamed it. Kaci pointed out that it's called Relationship Freeze.

Also there were upwards of 30 people there, if you count the observers. Lots of people came to watch, apparently sent there by a professor for some theater class at UT.

Great enthusiastic crowd of mostly newish improvisers.

Oh, and we tried the harshest game ever, which Sean Hill had described to me and Kaci yesterday. We had two improvisers do a scene while 2 others did blow-by-blow commentary on their improvising. Then, to make it fair, they switched.

Also, that game where everyone tries to get one person to do a certain thing (like touch their nose or lay under a bench) by dinging KILLED tonight. We played it like 4 or 5 times because everyone was just roaring with applause and laughter.

I have got a big bag of tricks to share.

And if anyone has any particular games or aspects of improv they want to play with, feel free to let me know.
