Shit, Jeb was the one who was supposed to be president. The whole time that Dubya was doing coke and fucking up a series of business, Jeb was being the smart and dutiful one and getting his resume together. I would imagine that he's carrying around a pretty painful dosage of thwarted ambition, particularly now that his brother has inflicted his managerial skills on the entire planet.

That perspective seems to be taking partakers of the Bush-Clinton joke pretty seriously. I mean, yeah, there are actual unfortunate phenomena which back it up (20 years of actual Bush-Clinton back-and-forth presidency with a chance at several more years yet), but I like to think that the prospect of it persisting another 40 years is kind of like some Americans' self-deprecating and satirical parody rather than actual paranoia that it's going to continue indefinitely. In other words... Jeb? Yeah, probably not so much, but he helps keep the joke going.

The case can be made that we needn't worry about future administrations run by other people with the name Bush as we do about the continuation of the one we've got now.

W. quietly signed Executive Order #51 (The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive) back on May 9th of this year. It's provisions lead the door wide open to suspension of elections in the case of "catastrophic emergency".

So picture if you will, the U.S. bombing Iran in September of 2008 and due to our being "at war" (which falls under the definition of "catastrophic emergency") Bush suspends elections until such time as an "orderly transition" may be effected). Could be 2009, could be 2017...

Yeah, this theory is probably best left to those in tinfoil hats, but there is a British bookmaker taking bets on whether there will be 2008 U.S. presidential elections or not. Makes ya wonder...
