need a better server for website

Post by arthursimone »

arthursimone.com is currently hosted by my friend's server. He makes an effort to upgrade every so often, he lets me use it for free, etc, but I simply can't rely on it anymore.

Too often I hear of people not being able to access it. Whatever the reason (usually my friend's connection or struggling hardware), I can't have that happening. My website's my business card, if I hear one more art festival director tell me they can't access it I'm going to gouge my eyes out.

Give me some good leads beyond something like GoDaddy! My site's not terribly complicated or large, so I need anything pricey or fancy... reliability is my #1 priority.

arthursimone.com is only about 20MB, something like that seems like so much overkill. Should I not get too hung up on wasted storage space?

Nope. We use it for Out of Bounds, and even I who don't know that much find their interface pretty easy to use. You can plunk a Wordpress blog in pretty easily if you like, lots of stuff. Plus if you sign up through Kareem with a referal, don't you get some discount, yadda yadda?

I third DreamHost. They have their critics, but I've always found them very easy to work with. And I understand your aversion to overkill, but I don't think you're going to find a deal for 20MB whose price is scaled accordingly.

If it really bugs you, you can put a lot of movies of you painting on there.

Planet earth hosting is also good. Dreamhost is good too.

Not if Majcher gets to him first. Clicky!

We use Dreamhost for improvforevil.com, and a whole bunch of other stuff. They were a little flaky in the past (but super-responsive to trouble), but they've been really solid lately, and their new control panel thingy is super easy to use, like Shannon said. I say check it out.
