I'm more concerned with what he's drinking that makes him so happy. Why are we giving our terrorists such refreshing beverages?

Speaking of Jill Carroll...

She was on tape over there saying that the terrorists were just defending their homes, etc. Then she gets released and denies those videos saying that it was propaganda that she was forced to say. She returns to the USA and the Christian Science Monitor, her employer, gets all these great (and exclusive) photos of her triumphant return. Look at the phone call home on the tarmac in Iraq before boarding the plane in shot 2, the rose by the plane window in shot 9, the family phone call in shot 11, and the family waiting by the window upstairs as the van pulls up in shot 12...and then ask yourself, which media is really using her more? (And why would she turn around and let us use her in such a way having just been used by someone else?)
I don't doubt that she was happy to be home, that she feels an obligation to her employer, that she loves her freedom...but is it true freedom? Tell me shots like 9, 11, and 12 weren't essentially staged. That such exclusivity on her story isn't a little odd, regardless of if she worked for them or not.

Her kidnapping, her being threatened and manipulated, her isolation in a foreign culture is undoubtedly sick. But there is something about her homecoming is pretty sick to me, too--and infinitely more subtle and more socially "acceptable" (or socially "unrecognized for what it is").
"I do."
