The episode where Bart moves into his own downtown apartment has some really poor moments, but what makes the episode is the part where Milhouse is talking on the phone to Bart and complaining about how he wished he could move out and he hated how his parents were cramping his style, etc. And then as soon as he hangs up, "MOMMY! WHERE'S MY PUPPY GOO-GOO? Oh, Puppy Goo-Goo, fetch me a dream!" Kills me every time.

I actually haven't watched The Simpsons in so long. I used to watch at least two episodes a day in syndication, but then once the late seasons got so horrible, I didn't bother with new ones, and stations started showing Friends in the times they used to show The Simpsons. They also stopped showing Frasier as often.

In middle school my friends and I used to play a game where we took turns naming simpsons characters, and if you said the same name twice you were out. It usually took a couple of lunch/advisory periods to complete, and that was in the midst of season 9. These days, I like to play a drinking game with some simpsons trivia cards I have.

Compare the fall off of the simpsons popularity (as a result of the changes in style) to Roy's desire to do dramatic improv. I think the earlier episode's desire to present sincere social commentary outweighed the desire to get the most laughs and highest ratings. What I used to appreciate about the simpsons was its balance of substance and entertainment.

I'm not up on the internet-gossip, but is their word of cancellation now that the movie is coming out? With the exception of south park, isn't the cartoon tv show movie a last ditch effort to squeeze as much money as possible out of a series before its ended?

Perhaps we've just grown to know what to expect from each show, each character on the Simpsons.

The last couple of years of Cheers were mostly boring to me because I often knew who was going to respond with what kind of comment.

Many British sitcoms last for a only a few years. In and out. New show. The fact that The Simpsons have had seven or more good seasons (whatever you think) is awesome.

That having been said. I look forward to seeing what eighty minutes straight of Simpsons will hold for us. That's four episodes worth of shows in one (I'm assuming) narrative.

i completely forgot about homer going to the restroom at the wtc in this episode, i wonder if they still have this in syndication anymore.

also, i could be wrong, but i remember this episode as duffman's debut.

I have those Simpsons trivia cards too... when we first got them, whenever we were playing trivial pursuit, I was allowed to answer them instead of sports questions as long as I did the really hard ones... later I started using it to store "things"... now it just smells like "stuff"

Sounds more to me like hardcore simpsons snobs than fans. I agree Simpsons slipped but to say that it was as early as season 9 is just insane to me. Some of the greatest episodes of all time are from 9 or later.
For example:
The one where Homer gets a gun - "I felt this incredible surge of power, like God must feel when he's holding a gun."

Main movie I wanna see is Rescue Dawn. Bale is one of my favorite actors and Herzog is one of my favorite directors. But that's just me. And I'm probably, sniff, all alone. But yeah, Simpsons. My roommate's freakin' out about that.
