I listened to a track on their myspace page a while back. I don't remember being particularly blown away, but Cave's stuff sometimes takes a few listens to grow on me. I'll have to hunt it down again and give it another try.

Nope! As usual, out of the loop on the big stuff -- I don't even know enough Nick Cave/B-day Party to get through the low level Jeopardy questions. I just wikipedia-ed Grinderman and, holy cow, what a line up! I'll be getting this very soon.

Also, on that note, do you peoples have bands/artists who you know you should be into -- everything you've read indicates you would love them -- but you just put off getting into? Nick Cave, or more specifically The Birthday Party, is one of them for me. I even have that live video of theirs that came out in the mid-80s but I only own one EP (The Bad Seed 12"). I know that someday I will dive in this pool, but it has not happened yet. I never knew the Kinks beyond the hitz until a friend lent me Village Green and Something Else circa 1999/2000. My mind split open and I was obsessed with them and now own pretty much everything they did from 1964 - 1972, but I guess I willfully ignored them for years.

Anyone you're avoiding (for now)?

Bob, I've got half a dozen Bad Seeds albums (no Birthday Party, though) that I'll gladly let you borrow.

The Kinks are a band that I know I should listen to, but I've just never done it. I keep almost buying a box set, or bundle of remastered albums, at Waterloo.

Speaking of stuff I want to have the privilege of saying I turned Bob onto, have you ever heard any of Mike Doughty's solo stuff?

I hope you have The Boatman's Call. When I try to introduce Nick Cave to people, I recommend starting there. It's my favorite Bad Seeds album.

Actually, I don't. I'm slowly picking up the ones I don't have. Let Love In and Murder Ballads are still tied as my favorites.

This kind of answers Bob's question as well... I LOVE Soul Coughing and every time that Doughty comes to town I go see him live and I even have a few of his live bootlegs, but I don't think I've listened to more than three or four studio-recorded songs of his.

I'm strange with music... I didn't get into the beatles until a few years ago... I think I think I was trying to wait for the hype to die down.

Maughty Melodic is one of my favorite albums. I highly recommend it.

That man needs to come back through town. He hasn't been back since ACL fest last year, or maybe it was the year before.

I like the Grinderman album, but I haven't listened to it a whole lot.

And despite Pete Doherty's constant fuck-ups, I still love his music as he hits on excellence more often than most. So I'm looking forward to Babyshambles' new album (produced by Stephen Street; excited to hear his result as Mick Jones' production on Down In Albion was atrocious. Still like the album, but it could have done with some actual producing).

Duder, I've got this if you want a copy. I also have icky mettle and greatest of all time (my fave of theirs) on disc. I saw these dudes up at Penn State playing for about 30 people in the fall of 1993 and they were teh awesome and super-nice. I saw them again in Baltimore at about 1am on a mega-cold January night. They were drunk, having drank beers waiting for the endless opening acts to go on before them in this korean karaoke place (one horrible opening band was called The Shit). I always loved how the bassist would play his bass down by his knees and jump around, making him look like an ape.

I'm listening to Emily Haines' new EP at the moment, and it's very good at first listen. I adore Knives Don't Have Your Back, and so this is a nice one to tide me over until the next album (which, if history is anything to go by, might be in about 10 years, haha). It also includes a remix to Mostly Waving.

Also, though not music (though apparently about 5 songs are part of the package), I am extremely excited for the Elliott Smith photo book that comes out later this year. <3

I've been doing this discography thing lately... where I pick a well-known "classic rock" band that had a lot of albums and listen to thier entire discography in order of release (in the country of origin of the band) straight through.

Zepplin - The Stones - Pink Floyd - ELO - and now Queen.

This isn't to say I hadn't already heard all these songs, but it's interesting to listen to them this way. Cringing your way through Thier Satanic Majesties Request makes you appreciate and love Beggars Banquet that much more.

Whew! That looks tough, seriously. There aren't many groups I could sit through with this. Tho, you gotsta to go back and do pre-ELO with Idle Race and The Move. Barring a song or two, The Move's first album (plus those essential first 4 or so singles) is still pretty classic...
