Thursdays and Sundays

Bumped over from the 3/26 agenda thread:

Shouldn't we concentrate on making Thursdays successful before adding a new day, Sunday?

My feeling is that as long as troupes want stage time, a dark stage is a wasted stage. If a group can find a cast and crew and they aren't preventing someone else from putting more people in the space (or making more $$$), why not use the space? I don't think this market is anywhere near saturated.

sniff sniff i smell big debate coming up. i think it boils down to if troupes would be willing to be given a sunday night slot. we'll see how the talks go this sunday.

Not to hijack a thread (hey, hijacking is what my people do...), but why not start supporting the Thursday shows this week! I hear there are 2 kick-ass troupes laying down the smack tomorrow night at 8!

I may be totally off base here, so please feel free to tell me to shut the hell up.....

Since Maestro sells out every Saturday, how about making a Thursday version of Maestro where 2 troupes participate. You can have one person from each troupe as a director, and then fill in extra slots with improvisors as needed. I'm sure you'd draw some sort of crowd seeing as how Saturday's Maestro is constantly selling out. Then you can also add different showcases like a Gorilla format, or maybe Start Trekkin ( I was aksed if that show was coming back at least 5 times while working the booth for the 8pm show).

That way we have more than one troupe pimping the night to friends and family, and we could present a different game format every Thursday. While your general public may not know what long form is, they have probably seen "Who's Line" or Star Trek. You could draw them in with either some themed event or games, and then once we have a significant amount of people showing up for the Thursady events, we gradually shift back to where one troupe takes over the slot for the night.

I think this is a great idea. Maestro and Start Trekin have a bigger
following than any one troupe. You might not be able to do it
every week, but it would be a good way to get people used to
the idea of improv on Thursdays.

Between Mon: Buckman's class, Tues: Jam, Wed: Shana's workshop, Sat: Rehearsal, Fri or Sat: Watching a show...

I was getting rather close to improv burnout a few weeks back and made a conscious decision to do less improv.. so now it's only 4 days a week.

Lindy hop. I really like lindy hop. The Texas Fed dance which has 200/300 people occurs on Thursday nights.

brian, you lack the true appreciation for old trek. im more of a trekker than a trekkie, but old trek has this amazing unique charm. the low techness and haminess for the show works sooooo much better for improv than next gen. believe me we've had this discussion oh so many times. i love picard but shatner is ten times more fun to spoof on stage. goddamn, do i miss ben sterling. now there's a man who WAS James T. Kirk. as jordan maxwell said of ben, "Ben Sterling isn't Jame Kirk to a T, but to the Tiberius."
