i just found out one of my favorite progressive clients is suddenly being investigated by the IRS.
to note, they have been a harsh critic of the Bush administration and regularly feature articles from progressives such as Bill Moyers. more recently they have called for election reform and the censure of the current president.

Bah, censure is a waste of time anyway, like the Austin City Council voting against the war in Iraq.
And censure is a weird concept to explain to the American people and really runs the risk of blowing up in their face.
I'd say that they ARE scared of losing votes. The House has elections later this year and so does a 1/3 of the Senate. And let's face it, Republicans are far, far better at spinning this sort of thing than Democrats. Coulter, Rush, the others would use this to attack every one that voted for it and while Bush's numbers are dwindling, Republican numbers are holding pretty strong in local races. That censure would be an attack on the popular Republican house candidate. That censure would be a lack of support for the troops in districts with military bases. That censure would be evidence of Democrats cowardice, lack of ability to see the big picture, and inability to work together and compromise.
The Democrats are walking a fine line. If they can take control of Congress they can essentially render Bush a lame duck in many ways with two years still to go. They are timid and not known for ballsiness. They tried to bluff and got called to the mat by Frist (who can use that as yet another feather in his cap to become the Republican heir apparent). If you don't have the cahones to follow-thru, don't threaten. Yeah, I'm talking to you Feingold.
Besides, who cares. One is as corrupt as the other. Despite the cries of anguish over the freedoms Bush has stripped away, do you really think the Democrats would give up those powers if they were in control of them?
