I'm really enjoying this thread! I started crawling through all the previous posts. I have been in a new music slump for awhile. I can't wait to pick through everything. While I was reading I kept thinking someone should bring up Mastadon and then they popped up! You know NPR had a great interview with them. They have a true connection with music and the stories that can be told. I mean, when I found Leviathan I lost my mind! Metal devoted to Mobey Dick!??!?!? Those guys are fantastic! If you miss the lost art of the guitar solo then check out the Fucking Champs. I haven't seen them live but I hope they are as pretentious as they sound. Can't wait to get back and share what has been ringing in my ears lately!

I'm all about Mastadon and The Sword and motherfuckin' Dragonforce these days. I owe a third of that to this thread. Long live metal.

Why is that an either/or question? The answer is most likely yes to both.

Ok, say what you want, but I got the latest Muse album (Black Holes and Revelations) after I heard the single "Knights of Cydonia" on the radio. I am loving it. I know they sound like Radio Head and U2 and a lot of other "better" bands, but I don't care. I really don't know a lot about the band. I don't have any of their other albums, but I won't hesitate to buy them after hearing this one. It's grandiose and full of minor progressions, and there's lot's of vocal harmony and lyrics about powerful things which occur in nature.

Basically, it's Dio lite. I think Cody should check it out (there's some dragonforce-esque arpeggios in a few of the songs).

Also, Kareem, I'm listening to that Sabath: Dio Years album when I jog. Makes the run much easier. Can't help but smile every time he mentions a wizard or demon or shadows or "special kind of danger zone".

I want to get that Muse album. I've liked what I've heard so far. And you're totally right. It's Dio or Motorhead-lite. Epic imagery and the like.

I'm glad that Dio album was released. I hadn't appreciated his Sabbath stuff before. After All has such a killer intro riff.

The Fragile Army -- Polyphonic Spree

They're in town this Sunday (June 24) at Stubb's. I am going. They are awesome live.

Yeah, that track is actually on the one Dio-Sabath album I already had (Dehumanizer). I actually like almost all of Dehumanizer, but the title track is my favorite.

I am right this very second listening to Mount Eerie's "No Flashlight."

Also, Thurston Moore's new album just leaked and, based on the first few tracks, is quite good.
