Freelance gigs?

Post by Justin D. »

I'm in serious need of some extra cash flow at the moment. Last week, I paid for for rental applications, put down a deposit on a house (house warming/late birthday party/potluck party to be announced later), had work done on my car, and got a new registration sticker for it. Today, my van broke down about a third of a mile from work. If it's just the radiator hose, it shouldn't cost too much. If it's the gasket, it'll cost a lot more because they have to remove half the engine to get to it. No matter what, I have to pay to have it towed to Groovy Automotive on North Lamar. For the last couple of weeks, I've felt things have been going too well and was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Well, it's dropped.

Anyone know of or have the ability to hook me up with some freelance editing or writing work? I work a full-time job at Freescale Semiconductor as an editor, but have the ability to commit time to a freelance job because I'm one of the faster workers here. Also, I won't mind doing freelance work at home for a while because I'm going to try to conserve as much money as possible for the next month or so.

They suck as a company, but try Publisher's Resource Group (aka PRG Austin). My wife used to work there as an editor. They are kinda close to going out of business, but might be needing some poeple to finish up the remaining work. People will start to jump ship if they actually announce that they are closing the doors. I am sure there will be some work if that is the case.

Here are their current job listings:

If you hate it/them just remember that I told you that they suck!

teehee...prg remains the only 9-5 job i have ever worked. this was 5 years ago. i honestly cannot believe they are still around.

we would hire people to solve high school math problems that would determine our answer keys. these people were lucky if they got 70% correct. and prg would still pay them AND continue hiring them. quality products.

Sorry. It was some freelance editorial work and I don't recall the specifics now. Oh wait it was UT something. Some kind of service at UT editing course material or something. Damn I can't remember but it was 20 per hour, which doesn't help you now does it?

It was for UT TeleCampus. http://www.telecampus.utsystem.edu/ What exactly the job entailed, I don't recall.
