I was between those two also, but there was something (which i forget now) that pushed me towards the Avayon. I don't think it was subtitles, but some other compatibility (was it Xvid? does Philips do Xvid? or MP4? or WMA?). Anyway, I've never upgraded the firmware (yet, though it's easy if I need to) and I haven't made it region free yet only because I haven't needed to. But I've never read anyone having a problem doing it. Avayon now makes portable players with the same mutli-Codec compatibility... http://www.avayon.com/

I think, if you haven't seen him (or have never heard of him) that Trio documentary (hosted by Janeane Garofalo) is the best intro. It puts his career in context with the time very well. And, compared with the other documentary, it has the benefit of perspective. The first was made by friends quite soon after his death and is a little rambly. The second does a good job in just an hour of showing you who this guy was and why he was so important. Plus, the second one I actually have as a DVD+R -- the best quality out of any of the others.

Thhhhhhhhey're Both Dead

I will bring Ninja Bachelor Party and Bill Hicks on Austin Public Access.

I had a dream a while ago that I was talking to Bill Hicks in a small theater, not unlike the upstairs at The Hideout, and he didn't realize he was dead...then he was being carted around in a wheelbarrow full of red rose petals, tossing them about.

Paging Dr. Freud...

I have Sane Man and Bill Hicks Live which has his HBO special One Night Stand at the Old Vic in Chicago, his breakout performance at the Montreal Comedy Festival, and a show from the Dominion Theatre in London.

I'm totally in on a Hicks video fest.

No matter the quality, I need to see the Funny Bone show where he totally loses it. The fallout from that show was really interesting; suffice to say he sold out the rest of his run there.

God, I missed this whole section. Yes, Bill Hicks, count me in.

Ok...

So, I stalked Jay on the street yesterday and we talked about a good time for doing this. With the relatively small set of improvisors, it would near impossible to do this on a Friday or Saturday eve without having someone needing to be at the Hideout for a show. We thought that maybe a Sunday would be an ideal time.

While this weekend would be nice, it may be a little soon for people to clear their Sunday. Next Sunday we have the AIC meeeeeeeting so perhaps, if we're not all sick of each other after those three hours, we can high-tail it over to Drake and watch some Dark Poet? I'm certainly open to other suggestions too.

What say yee?

I f'ed up. I can't do it this Sunday due to a friend and fellow improvisor coming into town that afternoon, which I forgot.

but, I still want to watch some Bill Hicks... I'm open to most other times other than the next ten days.

This man changed my life. I can quote damn near everything he's ever done but I see that McNichol has a few things I have not seen. I must attend this viewing party, it is my destiny.
