Cinzano: a comedy by Lyudmila Petrushevskaya

Post by acrouch »

Graham Schmidt of Ed 32 and The Available Cupholders of Well Hung Jury bring you a scripted Russian play:
Graham Schmidt wrote:I'm happy to invite you all to see Breakin' String Theatre's production of...

CINZANO
A comedy by Lyudmila Petrushevskaya (one of Russia's premier contemporary
novelists/short-storyists/play-ists/idea-ists)

WHEN: May 10, 11, 17, 18 (Thursdays and Fridays), admission $7-10, all
performances begin at 8pm.

WHERE: Coldtowne Theatre, at 4803 Airport (behind I Luv Video)
better directions at: www.coldtownetheatre.com

WHAT: Written in 1973, Cinzano (pronounced, "chin-ZAH-no") is Petrushevskaya’s
first, and probably her funniest play, though it presents a decidedly bleak
vision of life in the gutters of Brezhnev-era Moscow. It was this pessimism
that caused the Soviet government to ban Petrushevskaya’s play (along with most
of her other writing) until its first publication in 1989, under Perestroika.
The action concerns three close friends, one case of illegal liquor, one
horrifying secret, and one glorious night of hard drinking to forget.

WHO?: Breakin’ String Theatre is a provisional name for this first-time
collaboration between members of Austin's legendary improvisational theatre
troupe, The Available Cupholders, (Jeremy Lamb, Ace Manning, and Mike Joplin),
amazing theatre talent/assistant-director Adrian Singh, and director Graham
Schmidt.

Love,

The by-no-means-legendary director, Graham Schmidt

I saw this last night, and I highly recommend it.

Yep! It was great. The built-in chemistry of the Cupholders really shows through in Cinzano. It was a pleasure to watch.
