Video editing software

I asked about this a long time ago on the forum and cannot find the post:

Good, reliable inexpensive video editing software...any recommendations?

I'd reccomend Vegas Movie Studio (preferably Vegas Movie Studio Platinum or Vegas Pro for higher quality video and more tools, but the consumer version is good, too). I've been using it for all kinds of projects, and with all the different kinds of adjustment tools, file complatibilities, and its multi-layer system (which is rare for consumer-level video editing software), it's reliable, stable, powerful, and easy.

Seconding ULead. Wes was kind enough to lend it so we could edit something for our sketch show -- it was simple to use and relatively intuitive.

I've also used the free version of Avid (available from their site). You need a pretty decently powered machine to run it, and it operates in a way that might a little adjustment to thought process, but the results are really really great.

Adobe Premiere Elements is $99 and I use it at work on my Windows system. I consider it the gold standard.

I could also recommend KDenLive for Linux - which is free, but you'd have to install Linux.

I agree with Spaz, I've been using the Sony/Sonic Foundry line for years now and it never fails to impress. The Vegas Video platform has quite a few tricks and tweaks that Adobe has, but at half the price. try the demo and see what you think.
