Afternoon all!

Post by idrake76 »

So, I'll do this AA style:

Hi, my name is Ian and I'm an improv fanatic. Althought I'm in Jackson, MS right now, I lived in Austin for 3 years before coming here and i've been jonesing to get back and see some funny. I've got a troupe here called Off Kilter and we're hopefully going to be in town for the next Out of Bounds festival and we'd love to hang out with some groups and just get to know some more like minded freaks like us! I'm a zookeeper by trade and actor by choice and really miss eating at Chuy's. anyway, hope to chat with you guys in the near future. Catch ya on the other side!

WOW! that is cool. Are you a research zoologist, too? I wanted to do this as a kid. But then we got a horse and I had to "muck out" the stall every day. That cured me of wanting to do it for a living. Then I set my sites on marine biology -- no poop to clean up in the ocean. Then I became an animator. There are lots of science people in the improv world... must be bc you have to be smart and a bit nerdy to do improv.

I've never really understood what this phrase encompassed... but I know what you mean.

YES!! I miss it and I live here! Note to self: must go eat at Chuy's this weekend.

I focused on the zookeeper part myself and was going to comment on it. Then I saw others beat me to commenting about your being a zookeeper. So I guess I will not make mention of the interesting fact that you are a zookeeper. Oh well.

Holy shit, you're really in Jackson, MS? I moved here from Gulfport, MS, in February of last year. Currently, I have a good friend in Jackson who is an actor (he graduated with a masters from USM in drama, or something else actorly, a couple years ago). His name is Danny Dauphin. I think he also started up again with an improv troupe himself. Or maybe he said he knows people in the troupe. He told me something about using air pellet guns in a show, which is when I told him about a proposal our troupe was mulling over about using electro-shock dog collars.

Whoa, here's an extra bit of weirdness. I checked the name of your troupe again, and Off Kilter is the name of the troupe Danny mentioned before.

Kooky.

yup, Danny and I work together on quite a few projects and he's great to have in the troupe. I'll pass along your regards (even though you didn't pass any to me). :)

Hello Ian.
I find it highly amusing that people are fascinated with my occupation when it, like sara made mention of "mucking", is not as glamarous as it would seem. no frolicking with monkeys or wrestling with cougars...but it is a little piece of Doolittle here in Mississipppi. :)

It's the title zookeeper. It's always sounded like a fake profession that they put in educational children's books like hammock tester. It's just really cool to see that someone pursued one of those.

right, i see where your coming from. the funny thing is, I have my BFA in acting. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. started doing edu-tainment for the local zoo and just progressed from there to pooper scooper. :)

i did a weekend of shows at a theatre in jackson as part of the well hung jury farewell tour. they were very nice to us. put us in their equity housing cottages. i forget the name of the place but the house was full and the shows were good. it was cool to see where walter payton went to school, too. we played football on the field where he played. that was oddly fulfilling. i'm reminiscing too much in your 'hello' thread. sorry about that. i like jackson, though. very sweaty as i remember.

ok, hello and we'll be looking for your submission.

Fun tidbit: if you say zookeeper over and over again, it starts to sound even cooler. It has funny syllables. zue-kee-perr
