Sara Farr Appreciation Day

Post by sara farr »

Hey all you people!

I know a lot of you guys, and a lot of you guys know me. Some of you may even owe me a favor. Or maybe you just like me and were wondering how to show your appreciation for me.

Well here it is. I need some help. Now that I've decided to stay in my house a few more years, I would like to build both a fence and a deck for my backyard -- and I want to do it while there is still some dry, cool weather to be had.

I'm planning on doing this Friday & Saturday, 4/13-4/14. That's a month away, so mark your calendars. It's also the weekend AFTER Passover/Easter. (It's also Roy's bday weekend.)

I'm going to rent a jackhammer to make post holes, and then set the posts in concrete on Friday (translate - adventurous & fun labor). On Saturday I'm going to put the boards up (translate - social & convivial labor). [I may possibly be wrapping up any loose ends on Sunday.]

I have supplies and a plan, but I need some laborers, as well as some labor-supporters -- people to help the laborers get the work done quickly by keeping them refreshed with drink/snacks from my kitchen.

So let me know if you can come lend a hand. Bring your hammer, electric screwdriver, and/or lawnchair. Drinks, snacks, and a strong appreiciation of your good-neighborliness shall be provided to you.

Felicitations to you all!

I read this and honestly thought at first that you had actively decided to become a shut-in and were not going to leave the confines of your house. Maybe like you wanted to gain 1000 lbs and have Maury or Montel have the side of your house removed and have you airlifted to their studios like a whale to be on a very special episode on obesity. I took it too far.

Well, Justin, that is actually kind of appealing.

If shut myself away from the world for 2 years, I'd have the peace and quite and time I'd need to complete FLATLAND and my OWN animated short. And like Sandra Bullock in 'the Net" I could order all my stuff online, have it delivered to my house so I'd never have to leave -- including exercise equipment that I'd never use because I'd be too busy sitting at the computer.

However, if I did that, I probably WOULD gain 830 lbs and die. Then they'd have to have the side of my house removed so they could tote my carcas away. Or I could will my sister to torch the house with my body in it, like in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". That probably WOULD be taking it too far.

Keep us updated on this. I'm one of the many people who owe you a solid or two.

I'll lend a hand or two. Then I'll go drink a lot at Roy's.

Good luck Sara!!!

Thanks, Andy! You are awesome! More deets soon, just wanted people to mark their calendars.

Thanks, Vines! You are the greatest!

And thanks, Ted, I forgot about the walk.

But YES! please come on over after you've done some walking as there will be lots of boards to put up... and you can give us some feedback on how we're doing and get some snacks/drinks before heading over to the Moonbase to party with Roy.

Bump!
I am going to be RAISING A FENCE in my backyard this weekend!!

DAY ONE - EXTREME HOLES!!!!
Friday 4/13 - starting at 1:00pm

We will be using a rented AIR-POWERED JACKHAMMER (translate AWESOME power tool) to drill (20) x (1'6") holes into the limestone. It sounds tough, but all you really have to do is hang on. When the holes are dug, we will drop the posts in the holes, dump in a bag of mixed concrete, and set it straight. We will be starting at 12:00pm - High Noon! on Friday and working until all 20 posts are set. I have work lights just in case this takes longer than expected. All-in-all the most satisfactory "I AM A BUILDER" feeling part of this project.

DAY TWO - RAILS & PICKETS!!!
Saturday 4/14 - starting at 9am

We will be starting early to set 17 rails, and then the 272 pickets. I'm using Phillipshead screws to secure the rails & pickets - not nails. I have 2 power drills, my dad is bringing two, but if YOU have an electric or battery powered drill of your own, please bring it. This can be tiring on your arm, so hopefully there will be enough of us there to take turns.

Snacks and drinks provided to all who attend -- workers, helpers and cheerleaders.

I live at:
One-too-Ate-oh-FOR Carrera Drive
Austin TEJAS, Seven Ate 7 two selvin.

My cell phone number is:
Five Selvin Tree (dash) One too zero Nyne.

If the above does not make sense, PM me with questions or directions.

I will be there after the SP walk. I will try to bring a couple of drills. Are there other tools you need?
