Free Beer and Air Guitar ?

Post by cargill »

Hello Friends,

It's round 3 of Air Guitar tomorrow night (Alamo Drafthouse downtown 9:45pm). Couple of things to note here, the judges are all members of AIC:

Shana Merlin
Dave Buckman
Erin Plischke
Erika May
Bob McNichol

and of course I'll be there hosting. We have plugged Hideout each round and it would be great to have some of you come to compete, I will get you a free beer or 3 and you can compete for free. Also, Air Guitar was just recently named one of the best events in Austin to see in Feb. 2006 Austin magazine. We sell out each round, so come compete, have fun and drink a beer with me !

(If you don't know what it is, check out this website www.austinairguitar.com or www.usairguitar.com. Basically, come dressed as a character and perform Air Guitar for 1 minute (you pick/bring the song). The winner gets a free trip to New York City in June)

Rock On,
Jen

I've thought about doing this before...but I'm not sure of how lame it is for someone who actually plays guitar to get up there and pretend to play.

Still, it'd be fun as shit to watch.

Let me know if you're short on judges at the last minute. I love me some metal.

You work your life away and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live

You would be awesome!

Jen, I don't know if you could tell tonight at WNT rehearsals, but I'm sort of dangerously close to getting sick. So therefore, I am staying in tonight for the monster weekend ahead of me.
I'm an asshole.

YEAH BABY!

What a great show tonight!!! And I'm not just saying that because I was IN it. I thought the HOST and the JUDGES ROCKED LIKE A SHAG-CARPETED, EVIL-DEAD-PAINTED, EXTENDED-BED ECONOLINE SITTING ON A FAULT LINE IN CALIFORNIA ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!!!

Whew! It was one hell of a show where ALL FOUR finalists (INCLUDING THE CHAMPION AND RUNNER UP FROM LAST YEAR) were all so [BLEEEEEEPP]'n great that the Air Guitar Chairman came out on stage and awarded EACH of them a pass to the semi-finals.

Wow! And one of them -- "Shredder"-something-or-other -- literally shredded his clothes and was BALLS NAKED on the stage for a good 1/2 minute during the ROCK-OFF. And if you think that was fun, you should have seen the great acts that were both AIR-A-LICIOUS and generally ROCKIN'.

PLUS!! DID I MENTION HOW AWESOME AND FUNNY THE [BLEEEEEEEEP]'n JUDGES WERE????!!! BTW they were the INVINCIBLE DAVE BUCKMAN, SHAG-A-RAMA SHANA MERLIN, AND ROCK-MONSTER JASON CHIN. HI-LARIOUS BANTER AND OFF THE CUFF FUN-EE JOKES FLYING LEFT AND RIGHT. EVEN AFTER A NIGHT OF BRUTAL (right, Shana???) COMPETION!!! I, AND EVERYONE AROUND ME LAUGHED OURSELVES SILLY!

HOO-RAY FOR JENNIFER [BLEEEEP]'n CARGILL WHO BROUGHT THIS AWE-SOME-ALMIGHTY SPORT TO AUSTIN!!!!

If you weren't there, YOU MISSED THE EVENT OF THE YEAR!!! But don't fret, there's still next month, and then SEMI-FINALS!!!

YES!

HOLY SHIT

Last night was one of the best shows I have ever seen (in any genre of show) in my life. EVERYONE was amazing ! Sara Farr coming out as a Nun and rocking out to Rainbow connection was probably one of my favorite bits in the history of Air Guitar. Jason Vines was HOT HOT HOT ! Thank you all for supporting, it was way, way, way sold out and looks like the finals are going to be the highlight of the year for Alamo.

That was the most fun I've had partially clothed in a long time. My neck is killing me but it was totally worth it. Sara and I are going to team up for the next prelim round. We're gonna blow the roof off the place next time.

Jen Cargill is doing and awesome job running the Austin Air Guitar Empire. It was a full house at the Alamo Downtown (200+ people) last night and AIC represented well.

You know it was a good show because when I judged last night I got

-stepped on (a big welt is appearing on my arm today)
-hot tea spilled on me
-had a beer bottle broken next to me and beer spilled on me
-was given flowers and firecrakers
-experience a religious conversion
-was involuntarily exposed to 2 ballsacks and 1 penis

And I still had a great time!

Twisted Sister and Starwolf Nightranger rocked the house! Can't wait until the pictures go up on the site.
