Late Night Lawrence of Arabia at the Hideout Tonight

Post by acrouch »

So I rented Lawrence of Arabia, and Asaf pointed out that it really needs to be seen on the big screen. And it just so happens that I manage a theater with a medium screen and a projector, so I'll be watching that tonight after going to Buckman's play (I'm Not Tartuffe) probably around 10:00pm. So if you're down for a three-hour movie at 10:00pm tonight, swing by the Hideout and bring some popcorn.

You know what? I may actually do this. I've seen Lawrence of Arabia, but never all in one sitting.

Plus, it's kinda sorta part of my history.

Them damn Turks kept your people down. Thank goodness the Europeans intervened in the breakup of the Ottoman Empire and made everything better.

PS--This is not to downplay the historic oppression of any group or national liberation struggles in general. I was only commneting on whites' abilities in the colonial era to come up with usually the worst possible long-tern solution to most things they touched.

I'm some small fraction Turkish, too.

Egyptian, English, Scottish, Turkish.

In almost every way you can divide it, I hated and oppressed myself. Rather fitting...

Don't even get me started about Turks...

ARMENIAN 4 LIFE!

(insert mp3 of tinny electronic Armenian music here, plus a waving Armenian flag)

I still like Kareem, though.

Wow, Armenian/French with a Canada fetish. Mo, you grow more complicated in my eyes all the time.

Lawrence of Arabia is my favorite movie of all time, hands down, for reals. I've seen it on big screens at the Castro in SF and at the Paramount here. It's fucking amazing up there. I will make all efforts to be there tonight after junk and stuff.
