Who Are Austin's Good Stand-ups?
I don't know locally who's good. I rarely go to open mikes. Please, tell me who's good. This is both for my personal edification and also for something else. Also, who is good and while still keeping it clean? Can you please let me know? Thanks.

I am not sure about the CLEAN part, but I can say that the following Austin-based stand-ups are very funny:
Jimmy Roulette
Matt Sadler
Matt Bearden
Brenden Walsh
J.R. Brow
Chris Fairbanks
Howard Beecher
Trey Galyon
Nancy Reed
I have seen the first 3 live and they were hilarious...but they don't work clean traditionally. The rest I have only heard on Dudley and Bob and they are very funny there (and have to work clean). Most on this list have either won or almost won the Funniest Person in Austin contest.
If you really want to dig a little deeper, contact Angela Davis, the producer of the Dudley and Bob show, and talk to her about it. Her email address is angela@klbjfm.com. She knows all the local comics because she has to book them on D&B and would be a great resource.
Good luck!

I contacted her some time ago about giving her free improv tickets and the gist of her response was "I did tons of improv in LA and I'm done with improv." I was disappointed at how closed she seemed to the idea of improv in general, let alone the Austin improv scene.improvstitute wrote:If you really want to dig a little deeper, contact Angela Davis, the producer of the Dudley and Bob show, and talk to her about it. Check out Punchline at ColdTowne Theater Fridays at 10. There are always a bunch of good standups there. It is an open mic, but most of the people there perform all the time and like to use our stage to let loose a bit more.

No, I know about venues and stuff. I'm looking for recommendations of particular individuals.York99 wrote:Check out Punchline at ColdTowne Theater Fridays at 10. And, Justin, I didn't mean that to sound snotty. I just wanted the filter of y'alls expertise rather than me setting out to acquire that expertise in a not very expedient manner.

No prob. I thought you might be going to scout comics. If you want names, there are more knowledgable people on the subject. I didn't want to accidentally leave anyone out, for risk of offending. Here are a few off the top of my head:
Kerri Lendo
Lisa Delarios
Seth Cockfield

to what end? are you looking for a kid-friendly comic for you and your family to attend or an overall clean comic to recommend to uptight acquaintances?
it also goes without saying that most comics listed who make masturbation or baby-rapin' jokes are more than willing to change their material if it means a paying gig.

Ah, I've been too coy by half. This thread was prompted by someone I know who's looking for recommendations for someone to open up at a corporate gig with him. I wanted people's recommendations so people wouldn't have their feelings hurt when I didn't forward on their information to said friend when they said "I'm a good stand-up, I'll do it, how much does it pay by the way?"arthursimone wrote:shando wrote:

And that prompted me to realize I really didn't know a whole bunch about the stand-up scene here--which has changed a lot since I used to go to Velveeta--and was curious who others liked.

I'll have Kerri email you- she's got a pretty good grasp of everyone involved in the standup scene, velveeta capcity punchline and otherwise.
