Casting: Floodlines

Post by smerlin »

If you are in to performance art, this is a really neat project to be involved with. I did it last year.

Hi Everyone,

I write with exciting news! The City of Austin is funding a 4th annual installment of FLOODLINES, the site-specific performance memorial in Hyde Park which I conceived in 2003 and have directed for the last 3 years! This year's production is set for Sunday, April 22 @ 2pm, and you are invited to participate/perform/collaborate!

About the show:
Conceived in the aftermath of 9/11, FLOODLINES is a site-specific performance installation mapped onto the landscape of Austin, Texas. The performance unfolds over a three-mile stretch of land--on the streets, lawns, and sidewalks of Austin's historic Hyde Park neighborhood. As the audience travels through the piece as a funeral cortege, and a soundtrack plays in each car, the performers--all costumed in white, appear en route, performing repetitive acts that range from the quotidian to the surreal. As the performers appear, disappear, reappear, and disappear again, the audience is asked to consider the relationship between presence and absence, memory and loss, history and ghosts.

What it involves:
All participant/peformer/collaborators must be available the afternoon of the production, April 22.

All particpant/performer/collaborators must be available the day before the production, April 21, for a photo/video shoot & dress rehearsal (likely the afternoon).

All participant/performer/collaborators must be available *one other morning or afternoon*, for approximately 2 hours total, anytime between April 6-April 20, for a rehearsal with me and with a small group of other participants/performer/collaborators. Sean Jenkins, our fabulous stage manager, will be in touch with interested participant/performer/collaborators about rehearsal scheduling and availability. For now, the schedule is TBA.

All participant/performer/collaborators *are very ideally* available April 7th, 3-5pm, for a Hyde Park Garden Party and Benefit, at the home of the incredible Ann Graham, production manager for FLOODLINES.

I would love to have each and every one of you involved!! If you are interested, please email Sean Jenkins (stage manager) and let him know you're game

( seanpjenkins@gmail.com ). Anyone who wants to be involved can! Please also include the following info:

your full name
your email address
your best phone number
confirmation that you are available for the show (4/22) , the dress (4/21), and a rehearsal (TBA)
confirmation that you are available (hopefully) for the garden party (4/7)

Thanks so much! If you know someone else who might be interested, please feel free to forward this email! (For more info on FLOODLINES , you can read last year's blog @ http://www.floodlines2006.blogspot.com)
