What's the Most Marketable Name?

Post by acrouch »

There was a proposal in the October 22 meeting to change the name from Austin Improv Co-op to something less hippie, more accessible and with fewer hyphens.

There seem to be two main options:
1) Just drop the third word and become Austin Improv.
2) Change the third word. (suggestions have been Community, Council and Coalition)

What do YOU think? Why?

Austin Improv

I'm in favor of the elegance of Austin Improv. It makes us sound very universal and all-encompassing. And it makes branding and logos easier, what with one less word to worry about.

Let's keep it simple ... Austin Improv works. Besides, A.I. is familiar to folks but not so familiar Austin Improv couldn't own A.I. Dig?

I vote for Austin Improv Coalition

Coalition = 1) An alliance, especially a temporary one, of people, factions, parties, or nations. 2) A combination into one body; a union.

I thought about this for a pretty long time. Just sat and stared at the screen mulling over the names. I eventually chose "Austin Improv". I agree with Andy, its got an all-encompassing sound, and would work better for marketing, branding, and logos. Nice to keep it simple and elegant

just a suggestion,

but how about we name ourselves the Capital City Comedy Club?

seriously though, I liked "collective" because it has that group-dynamic feel to it. There are a lot of different troupes coming together to make this community, then I realized that ALL of those words mean basically the same thing on the surface. And Collective just made me think of the Borg, hive-minds, organic robots and whatnot. That's too scray.

I settle on "Austin Improv". There is beauty in simplicity. And as Keith Johnstone would say..."be obvious!"

I think "coalition" sounds too much like we're invading another country.

I like "Austin Improv" - b/c it is simple, and has great possibilities for logo design. In addition, it sounds like we're THE Austin Improv community... kind of like THE University of Texas.

"AIC" is too vague and doesn't really communicate ANYTHING.

yee-haw.

Yeah, that last one sounds good.
