Get ready to LAFF

Post by Jules »

LAFF

Ladies are funny. That is why we created LAFF, a festival celebrating comedy written, produced, or performed by women. LAFF will serve the greater community by giving the public an opportunity to laugh themselves silly while at the same time creating new audiences and awareness of female comedy. LAFF will serve female comedians by creating community and opportunity for the diverse landscape of comedy by, for, and about women.

Girls Girls Girls (producer and host) were named Best Improv Troupe in the 2006 Austin Chronicle Readers Poll. Their specialty, which strikes terror into the hearts of even veteran improvisers, is creating full-length musicals – complete with snappy songs, compelling characters, and even high-energy dance routines – on the spot from an audience suggestion.

From the website:
Scheduled performances include improvised comedy from the women of Massive (Houston, TX), SuperOvum (Tulsa, OK), Girls Girls Girls, and The Frank Mills; an all-star, all-female Maestro competition; music from metarappers Cock Sound and glam rockers The Platforms; and Jessica Arjet as Penelope Foolish (voted Best Clown in the 2006 Austin Chronicle Reader's Poll). Workshops and a panel discussion on women in improv will also be open to the public.
Valerie and I are both performing in the festival. And we are the women of Parallelogramophonograph. We are not floating independent agents and I would like our troupe name mentioned alongside the others if possible. It's important to me.

Ooh, yeah, there needs to be a counter-point thing for men.

We should at least go shoot guns and eat BBQ on one of the afternoons.

May I propose a guys-only poker night? I've thought about that for a while that there needs to be some improv dudes-only event. I'm happy to host or someone with a better place than me can step up.

Initial feedback is that it would be a dick move to do it the same weekend as LAFF. Feedback I have not yet recieved is that it's a dick move to have this conversational thread under this topic. Will open a separate thread here:

I would love love love to get together and play poker. Nickle and dime poker, but poker nonetheless.
