scheduling order

Post by Roy Janik »

What do folks think about scheduling the order that troupes perform in the 3-fer and Double Barrel as well as what day they perform?

I actually took a stab at this in the current schedule, but I didn't tell anyone. The reason would be to minimize confusion on the night of the show and to try and give some logical shape to the show.

I mean, naturally troupes could swap stuff around as necessity demanded, but it would act as a starting point.

What do you think?

I like. Last three-fer it seemed like the order was set in advance(maybe by the troupes before I got there), but it was sweet. Gigglepants, Junk, Get Up in that order made, I think, for a stronger show than had we shuffled the order any other way. My guess is well over half of the line-ups we have (especially in the threefer) would lend themselves to this kind of optimal order as well.

WORD! I think this is a great idea. I also think it would be important that Roy get feedback from all of us to help him make an informed decision about order. Ultimately, we want to give the best swow we can to the audience. That includes balancing the quality, style, energy, etc. of the troupes to give each show the right feel. IF you see something that works or doesn't work in terms of the line-up, share that with Roy so that he can consider it for the next time around.

This will be a tough job for Roy. He could easily look like the bad guy here and that should not happen. We all have to know that our placement in the schedule is for the greater good of the show. We can't get caught up in being petty. If your troupe (or mine) is scheduled first it is to improve the shape of the overall show. It is NOT and insult.

In that same vein, I think high energy troupes should open and close shows and the more mellow troupes in the middle. Of course this is secondary to anticipated quality of the show.

My 2 cents...

Aye. Especially in the Threefer there's a notion of an opening act and a headliner even though the difference between them may be slight. From a performing standpoint, it's nice to know when you're going on well in advance so you aren't surprised with a hurry-up-and-wait issue.

FWIW, I'm slowly rebuilding the Schedulator; I'll put in a notion of troupe order for shows.
