Writing sessions?

Post by Asaf »

So one of the things that I am doing with my life is focusing more on writing, specifically I am trying to compile a number of amusing anecdotal essays. Trouble is, I am not incredibly disciplined as a writer and would like to become more so. The thing that would help is if there were a group of writers who could use a forum to bounce ideas off of and get feedback on their current writing.

Who might be into something like this?

I would love an online forum for this kind of thing, and maybe even an actual physical, temporal writing group where people could come and help each other be disciplined once a week.

Blog. It'll get you used to writing daily.

I do have a blog, but do not post daily. I have gotten to maybe an anecdote a week.

And yes, I am hoping for a physical face-to-face session with people.

I spend basically all of my free time writing for my satirical dating column and the articles I randomly submit to publications. I'd really enjoy getting together weekly with some other people at a coffee shop or by-the-hour motel room to workshop ideas.

I started an anonymous journal one time called "Stories true and false" and just told anecdotes in it. Some true, some not.

I lost it though. It was a while ago when I was writing a lot more.

I should bring it back...the way Timberlake brings things back.

I am not going to a by-the-hour motel with Seufert, and I will shun those who do.

Yeah, Eric, we are talking about writing sessions, not riding...

Anyhoo, if I set for a Sunday brunch thing, where people could discuss writing ideas, or bring writing for review, at let's say noon at Austin Java, what would people think?

Feel free to offer alternative times, days, or places.

I am now taking applications for a writing partner. Please submit resume and headshot and writing samples to me via email.

A writing partner for support or a writing partner for collaboration?

I think he means someone to do the writing while he lies on his back and looks at the ceiling and smokes and listens to obscure boogaloo.

Back off, Crouch, this has my name all over it.

Ratliff nailed it. I'm a big picture man. I can't be expected to come up with things like dialogue.

Actually, I was sort of serious. I had a bunch of people in NOLA I wrote with all the time. I'm kinda working (or not working) in a vacuum here.

I'll write with you, but I don't stray from the following topics:
-Elves vs. Paladins (melee and sorcery; no mounts)
-Robocop
-ex nihilo critiques of Darwinian Evolution (e.g. The Origin of Species was the world's first mad libs)

Asaf, Sunday at Austin's Java sounds good. I'm assuming they have free Wi-Fi?
