Funny Writers Sketch Festival in May

Post by acrouch »

Hey you sketch guys,

Esther's Follies, the Velveeta Room and the Hideout are collaborating on a sketch festival and competition on the weekend of May 19.

We will be hosting local sketch troupes on the Hideout and Velveeta stages on Thursday and Friday, festival-style.

There will also be a sketch competition in which individual sketches (written) will be solicited and reviewed over the next couple months. 6 to 12 sketches will be selected as finalists and peformed on Friday by a sketch troupe assembled specifically for the purposes of the competition. They will be judged by big-wig judges and on Saturday, a Best of Fest Show will present two best-of troupes from the festival and the winning sketches. Then we'll all party our asses off at the Velveeta Room.

There's lots of good energy around this and we've already got the front cover of the XL that Thursday.

We'll need people interested in submitting sketches for the competition, people interested in reviewing the submitted sketches, people interested in performing the finalist sketches, and troupes interested in performing in the festival.

More details to follow.

Is there a conflict of interest in submitting sketches and being a reviewer.

Um, I answered my own question so I'll pose another one:

Can you submit a sketch and be a reviewer?

Also,

How many sketches can you submit? Does it cost money? When is the deadline.

I'd probably be down for helping out in some capacity, reviewing for sure.

I imagine they'll work out some way of avoiding conflicts of interest.

I want to get my sketch mojo working again too. Only problem is, I'll be away the weekend of May 19th on a little thing called a "honeymoon." But if there's reviewing or something available before that, I'm down.
